As Australians celebrate the end of a decade, a group of lottery players across the country are about to toast their first anniversary as Megadraw division one winners.
In 2018, the Saturday Lotto $30 Million Megadraw created 15 overnight millionaires, who each walked away with $1,764,705.89. It also saw two division one winning syndicates share a life-changing windfall.
In the lead up to this year’s Megadraw - the draw that traditionally creates the most millionaires, the Lott reached out to last year’s Megadraw winners to see how their first year as millionaires shaped up.
From immediate retirement to heading overseas for the very first time, each winner shared the memories they had created, all made possible by their Megadraw windfall.
A generous mum from Clyde in Victoria described 2019 as a “game changer” and declared there really was no nicer feeling than sharing her prize with her Megadraw family.
“Being able to help my children each buy their very own home, that’s been the highlight of 2019 for me,” she said.
“Seeing your children happy is an amazing feeling for a parent. It’s what life is all about!
“The moment my husband and I signed the cheque and handed it over to the bank to pay off our mortgage was also something I’ll never forget.
“We both changed jobs and work far less hours.
“And next month we’re off to Europe!”
A 2018 Megadraw division one winning couple from the Sunshine Coast revealed they made their dream retirement plans a reality.
“We both retired immediately after winning Megadraw,” they explained.
“We probably would have had to work until we dropped dead!
“Our mega memory of 2019 would have to be our holiday to Europe. We did a river cruise. It was the first time we’d been overseas.
“But the best part is being able to do things for our family.
“We didn’t need new cars or new clothes but being able to put your hand in your pocket and help your kids — that’s the most wonderful part about winning.”
Meanwhile, a Canberra mum explained one year on, she was still waiting to get used to not having to make mortgage repayments thanks to her Megadraw windfall.
“Just that sense of relief of being debt-free; having no burden of debt has been enormous,” she said.
“But also the added family time is a bonus. It has allowed my husband and I to cut down on work and spend much more time with our family.
“We had the best overseas holiday this year, we would have never done that without winning Megadraw.
“It was so special for our entire family. It’s a memory I will always treasure.”
The Lott spokesperson Matt Hart said he couldn’t wait to see how many millionaires would be created from this weekend’s Saturday Lotto $30 Million Megadraw.
“In less than a week a group of Australians will be experiencing the same pivotal moment these players did 12 months ago, when they discover their division one winning news,” he said.
“How do you think your plans for 2020 would change? What’s the first lifestyle upgrade you think you’d make?
“Make sure you register your Megadraw entry to a player’s card so we can reach out to you after the draw and break that incredible news.”
The Saturday Lotto $30 Million Megadraw, Saturday Lotto draw 4011, will take place on Saturday 28 December 2019.
Tickets can be purchased at any licensed lottery outlet, online from thelott.com or via the Lott mobile app.
In the 12 months to 30 June 2019, Monday & Wednesday Lotto and Saturday Lotto created 193 millionaires across Australia.
The Lott’s division one winning tally across all Australian lottery games has now reached more than 360 so far this calendar year.
