The numbers have been crunched and the Northern Territory’s 2018 Lottery Hotspot has been revealed as the town of Katherine, which sold the entry that won the biggest division one prize in the NT this year.

In May, a Katherine man won $2,013,144.80 in TattsLotto, however, as his ticket was unregistered, he was unaware of the win until five weeks later when he checked the ticket that had been stuck on his fridge the whole time!

During the past 12 months, between 1 December 2017 and 30 November 2018, 3 division one prizes totalling more than $3.13 million was won by Northern Territory lottery players who purchased an entry at a Tatts outlet.

It is the second consecutive year that Katherine Exposure Photographics in Katherine made the Lottery Hotspot list. It also sold a division one winning entry worth $1.4 million in 2017.

Tatts spokesperson Bronwyn Spencer said the Katherine millionaire was just one of the many happy lottery winners across the NT in the past year.

“While only three lottery players from the Northern Territory took home the coveted division one prize, there were thousands of other winners across the territory who took home prizes in other divisions,” she said.

“From overseas holidays and travel around Australia, to new homes and new cars, each ecstatic winner is now enjoying their win with their nearest and dearest.”

Ms Spencer added winners’ division one dreams were as vast and varied as the locations in which the wins were won.

“From what we can see in our research, it’s clear lottery wins can happen anywhere. We’ve seen division one wins land far and wide across the territory from Darwin to Katherine and beyond,” she explained.

“In each case, every winner had their own dream of how they would use their windfall to enrich their lives.  My favourite was a man from Berry Springs who hadn’t checked his ticket because he was on holiday. To beat his post-holiday blues, he checked his entry and discovered he had won.”

“The numbers are picked randomly. We picked those numbers years and years ago and I’ve been playing the same numbers since then. I was waiting for them to deliver my win and they finally have.” Coolalinga Man, TattsLotto, July 2018.

“Another memorable win for the year was the grey nomad who planned to extend his Australian odyssey after picking up a division one winning entry when he stopped by Parap in Darwin.

“I’m actually up in Darwin at the moment on holidays. I’m heading home to New South Wales via South Australia and across Victoria. I’m on a bit of a road trip, so this might help me to extend my trip a bit!” Holiday maker, $448,985.88 TattsLotto, August 2018.

Ms Spencer said there was still a chance for players to add their names to the list of 2018 division one winners.

“We are on the countdown to the highly anticipated TattsLotto $30 Million Megadraw on Saturday 29 December. This is the biggest TattsLotto event of the year as it’s the single draw that creates the most millionaires every year!” she exclaimed.

“With up to one-in-three adult Australians expected to buy an entry in the $30 Million Megadraw, we are expecting a surge of interest as we inch closer to the end of the year. Wannabe millionaires are advised to get in early and purchase their entry for the chance to see in the New Year as a millionaire!

“As always, we are encouraging our players to register their entries so we can get in touch directly with the life-changing news!”
