The numbers have been crunched and Tasmania’s 2018 Lottery Hotspots have been revealed, with Launceston, Claremont and Hobart claiming the crown for the postcodes that sold the most division one winning entries.

During the past 12 months, between 1 December 2017 and 30 November 2018, Tasmanian lottery players won 12 division one prizes and pocketed more than $40 million in division one prize money.

The biggest division one prize to land in Tasmania during the year was also the state’s largest ever division one win. In September, a Tasmanian man claimed the entire $30 million Powerball jackpot five days after the draw.

The latest Lottery Hotspots data shows the Tasmanian postcodes that sold the most division one winning entries during the past 12 months were:

  • 7250 for Launceston, which sold two division one winning entries worth $2,990,953.99.
  • 7011 for Claremont, which sold two division one winning entries worth $2,414,781.73.
  • 7000 for Hobart/North Hobart, which sold two division one winning entries worth $1,195,926.33.

Remarkably, Claremont Lucky Lotto sold both of the division one winning entries won in the suburb of Claremont. Tatts spokesperson Bronwyn Spencer said four newly-minted millionaires were created across Tasmania during the 12-month period.

“These millionaires are among the dozen division one winners across Tasmania throughout the year who have had their lives changed forever,” she said.

“From overseas holidays and travels around Australia, to new homes and new cars, each ecstatic winner is now enjoying their win with their nearest and dearest.”

Ms Spencer added winners’ division one dreams were as vast and varied as the locations in which the wins were won.

“From what we can see in our research, it’s clear lottery wins can happen anywhere. We’ve seen division one wins land as far north as Ulverstone and as far south as Kingston,” she explained.

“In each case, every winner had their own dream of how they would use their windfall to enrich their lives. My favourite would have to be the woman from Claremont who couldn’t stop laughing when she heard the news she was nearly a million dollars richer.

I’m speechless.  I just won nearly a million dollars!  I’m so happy!  I can’t talk.  I’ve just gone crazy. This is absolutely perfect timing. This is something you think will never happen to you!”  Claremont woman, $986,270 TattsLotto, March 2018.

“Another memorable win for the year was a woman from West Launceston who won division one in TattsLotto and was looking forward to never using lay-by for a purchase again!

“I’m shocked! Here I am thinking I’ve just been about to lay-by a new mattress and do I have the money and now we have! I can buy a whole new bed, or a whole new house! Are you sure it’s real? I’m just so shocked!”  West Launceston woman, $990,953.99 TattsLotto, January 2018.

Ms Spencer said there was still a chance for players to add their names to the list of 2018 division one winners.

“We are on the countdown to the highly anticipated TattsLotto $30 Million Megadraw on Saturday 29 December. This is the biggest TattsLotto event of the year as it’s the single draw that creates the most millionaires every year!” she exclaimed.

“With up to one-in-three adult Australians expected to buy an entry in the $30 Million Megadraw, we are expecting a surge of interest as we inch closer to the end of the year. Wannabe millionaires are advised to get in early and purchase their entry for the chance to see in the New Year as a millionaire!

“As always, we are encouraging our players to register their entries so we can get in touch directly with the life-changing news!”
