The Australian towns, suburbs and regions where the most lottery division one wins landed in 2022 have been revealed ahead of Saturday Lotto’s $40 Million Megadraw on New Year’s Eve.

In the 11 months ending 30 November 2022, there were 471 division one winning entries across the country and across all lottery games that delivered more than $1.4 billion in division one prize money.

While Victoria took out the top spot for the most major prizes in 2022 to date (142 division one winning entries that scored more than $394 million), New South Wales scored the most division one prize money (109 division one winning entries that scored more than $529 million).

The biggest individual lottery win during the period was an incredible $63 million Powerball win in February by a Coffs Harbour man.

Victoria also crowned the most new millionaires with 84, followed closely by New South Wales with 80.

The data also reveals the suburbs in each state and territory that were home to the outlets that sold the most division one winning entries.

  • In Victoria, the postcodes of 3150 for Wheelers Hill/Glen Waverley, 3802 for Endeavour Hills, 3109 for Doncaster, and 3199 for Frankston each sold three division one winning entries.
  • In New South Wales and the ACT, the postcode of 2428 for Forster and 2142 for Granville each sold three division one winning entries.
  • In Queensland, the postcode of 4551 for Caloundra, 4207 for Logan Village/Eagleby/Windaroo, 4506 for Morayfield and 4740 for Eimeo/Mackay each sold three division one winning entries.
  • In South Australia, the postcode of 5000 for Adelaide sold two division one winning entries.
  • In Tasmania, the postcode of 7250 for Launceston/Newstead sold two division one winning entries.
  • In the top-end, the postcode of 830 for Yarrawonga delivered the Northern Territory’s biggest prize from an entry sold in-store.
  • In Western Australia, the postcode of 6432 for Boulder sold four division one winning entries.

The Lott spokesperson James Eddy said he couldn’t wait to crown the final millionaires of 2022 after what had already been an incredible year for Australian lotteries players.

“The annual Saturday Lotto Megadraw is famous for being a millionaire-maker, and this year’s $40 million jackpot on New Year’s Eve proves the last chance of Aussie to finish 2022 as a division one winner,” he said.

“We know lottery wins can land anywhere and at any time, but in the first 11 months of 2022, we’ve seen pockets of wins emerge in different postcodes and regions.

“From Darwin to Launceston and everywhere in between, we’ve seen division one wins land far and wide across Australia this year, transforming the lives of players from all walks of life.

“Will this year’s Megadraw wins land in the latest lottery hotspots or fall elsewhere? We’ll just have to wait and see!

“At the end of the day, no matter where you buy your entry, as long as you have it in your hand before the draw’s close, you’re in with a chance to win.

“Just imagine what the new year would look like if you won division one in the last Australian lottery draw of 2022.

“For the chance to start 2023 as a newly-minted millionaire, we’re encouraging Aussies to grab their entry early and register that entry to an online account or players card so we can celebrate their New Year's win with them on 1 January 2023.”

The $40 Million Megadraw, Saturday Lotto draw 4325, is on 31 December 2022.
