Imagine starting 2019 as a multi-millionaire – that could be a reality for one Australian if they take out the entire division one prize of $50 million in this Thursday’s Powerball draw.

After six weeks of jackpotting, Australia’s biggest jackpotting game is offering $50 million in tomorrow night’s draw, giving Australians the chance to dream big about how they would enjoy life as a multi-millionaire if they won the coveted prize.

January has a trackrecord of big Powerball jackpot wins. In 2017, a private syndicate of 21 Queensland Government workers shared $55 million, while last year a mystery Melbourne winner also snared a $55 million Powerball prize.

While Powerball is a random game of chance and every number has an equal chance of being drawn, the Lott has crunched the numbers to reveal the game’s most frequently drawn numbers during the past eight months.

For the main barrel, where seven winning numbers are drawn from 35, the ‘hot’ number is 32, having been drawn 13 times. (Table 1)

There are several numbers that have only been drawn three times during the same period (Table 2), the lowest of any number from the main barrel.

For the separate Powerball barrel, where a single Powerball number between one and 20 is drawn, there are two numbers that have been drawn more than any other.

The Lott spokesperson Matt Hart said the first massive jackpot of 2019 gave Australians the opportunity to dream big in the New Year.

“Imagine how your plans for 2019 could change if you took home a life-changing $50 million!” he exclaimed.

“Would 2019 be the year you finally retire, buy that dream home or upgrade the car? Or would it be the year you book that first-class ticket for a round-the-world odyssey or finally volunteer your time to your favourite charity?

“There really is no limit to how you could play by your own rules with $50 million in your bank account.

“Now that the ‘hot’ and ‘cold’ numbers have been revealed, Powerball players need to decide if this might impact their entry into this week’s draw.

“Do you choose hot numbers in the hope they live up to their reputation of being most frequently drawn, or do you opt for the cold numbers believing they’re now more likely to be drawn?

“Either way, our best tip is to make sure you get in early as it is sure to be a busy day in store and online before the draw close!”

Powerball draw 1181 closes at 7:30pm AEST on Thursday 3 January 2018.

Tickets can be purchased at any licensed lottery outlet, online from thelott.com or via the Lott mobile app.
