A Samford Valley man is still pinching himself after a random lottery decision delivered a life-enhancing win of more than half a million dollars.
The ecstatic Queenslander held one of the 11 division one winning entries nationally in Saturday Gold Lotto draw 4655, drawn Saturday 28 February 2026. Each division one winning entry pocketed $585,849.02.
When an official from The Lott called to deliver the life-changing news, the stunned winner was completely overwhelmed.
“Wowie! Wowie! I’m absolutely beside myself,” he cheered.
“I don’t know what to say. I’m just stunned. That is unbelievable. That is amazing.
“I’ve been playing for a long, long time. I always get my set games and favourites but now and then, I’ll just get a random ticket and this was one of them.
“My dad used to play and never won anything but now look. Oh boy, I can’t believe I’ve done it.”
When asked what the six-figure sum will do for him, the winning man couldn’t help but shed happy tears.
“It means everything to me. It means I’ll be able to own my house so I can do whatever I want to do,” he said.
“My wife and I are both in tears. I don’t know what to say.
“You’ve made my day. We’ve been doing it tough with some health issues and other struggles, so this is life-changing.
“We’ll also be able to help others with this. Thank you so much.”
His winning 12-game QuickPick entry was purchased from Samford Variety Store, Shop 15, 19 Main Street, Samford Village.
Samford Variety Store owner Leilani Kovacs shared she and her team were over the moon to sell their first division one winning entry.
“When I heard that our outlet had sold our first-ever division one winning entry, I was honestly stunned. It’s something every newsagent hopes will happen one day, but you never really expect it!” she said.
“My first thought was for the customer, imagining how life-changing the win would be for them. It’s incredibly rewarding to know our small local store played a part in such a significant milestone in someone’s life.
“Moments like this remind us why we love being part of the community. It’s more than just selling tickets, it’s about sharing in people’s excitement, hopes, and sometimes even their biggest dreams coming true.”
The winning numbers in Saturday Gold Lotto draw 4655 on 28 February 2026 were 21, 13, 44, 31, 7 and 35, while the supplementary numbers were 30 and 34.
Across Australia, there were 11 division one winning entries in Saturday Gold Lotto draw 4655 – four in Victoria, and two each in Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia and one in New South Wales.
