Calling lottery winners: the worst job to have this April Fool’s Day

If someone called you this Monday, April Fool’s Day, to tell you you’re a division one winner – would you believe them?

The team at the Lott, Australia’s official lotteries, reckon they have the best job in the world calling division one winners with the dream-come-true news – except when they need to call winners on 1 April.

This April Fool’s Day comes after Saturday Lotto’s $20 Million Superdraw – draws that historically create more millionaires than any other.

The team at the Lott will be attempting to contact the Superdraw’s registered division one winners on Monday to confirm the amazing win, but expect to face heavy scepticism.

When it came to trying to convince Aussies of their wins, the Lott spokesperson Bronwyn Spencer said 1 April was the day the team dreaded the most.

“Each and every day we have the pleasure of calling registered division one winners to let them know they’ve won the big one,” she explained.

“However, when we do phone them we occasionally get hung-up on, questioned repeatedly or our phone calls are ignored completely because people simply don’t believe it could be true.

“On 1 April you can understand it’s even harder to convince winners that their bank balance is about to balloon by a few more figures!

“The last Saturday Lotto $20 Million Superdraw on Saturday 16 February had 12 division one winning entries, adding to our tally of newly-minted millionaires!

“Which means on Monday 1 April we could be calling several millionaires or multi-millionaires. We just have to hope they believe us!

“So if you get a phone call on Monday 1 April, and you have an entry into Saturday’s $20 Million Superdraw the team is begging you to answer your phone and believe us when we tell you you’ve won the big one!

“As always we recommend our players remain wary of scammers. We will never ask you for bank account details or other personal details.
