Aussies keen to put a spring in the final months of 2022 are eyeing this Thursday’s $50 million Powerball draw.

This week’s Powerball draw, on Thursday 13 October 2022, offers the fourth biggest jackpot offered by any Australian lottery game so far this year.  It’s also the biggest Powerball jackpot in three months.

The jackpot has surged to $50 million as there hasn’t been any Powerball division one winners during the past three draws.

Up to one-in-six Australian adults are expected to have an entry into the draw.

So far this year, 15 Powerball division one winning entries across Australia have collectively taken home more than $440 million.

If just one person snared division one in Thursday’s draw, The Lott spokesperson Matt Hart said they would share the title of the third biggest Australian lottery winner in 2022 to date.

“Powerball has been on a winning streak this year. There have already been more Powerball division one wins so far in 2022 than there were during 2019, 2020 or 2021,” he said.

“Of this year’s 15 division one Powerball wins, nine of these have been in New South Wales, three in Victoria and one each in Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia.

“Australia’s biggest lottery winner of 2022 so far is a Coffs Harbour man who wanted to park a new red sports car in the garage of a new house after we confirmed he’d won more than $63.3 million in a February Powerball draw.”

Winning entry types While every entry offered the chance to pocket Thursday’s Powerball prize, Mr Hart said some winning trends were emerging.

“Two-thirds of the 2022 Powerball division one winning entries to date have been QuickPicks – where the lottery terminal randomly chooses the numbers for you,” he said.

“And about a quarter of the year’s Powerball division one winning entries have been PowerHit entries – an entry unique to Powerball that guarantees the all-important Powerball number you need to win division one.”

“Hot” and “Cold” numbers The most frequently drawn winning numbers from the main barrel are 17, 9, 2 and 7, while the least frequently drawn are 33, 31, 34 and 6.

The most frequently drawn Powerball number is 19, while the least frequently drawn Powerball number is 18.

After last week’s $50 million Oz Lotto win was unclaimed for several days, Mr Hart reminded players to register their entry to a player card or online account.

“As this is the biggest offer of any Australian lottery game at the moment, we’re expecting it to be busy in-store and online leading up to Thursday night.

“If you win the jackpot, you’ll want to know immediately. By registering your entry, we’ll be able to reach out to you straight after the draw to confirm the life-changing news.”

Tickets can be purchased at any licenced lottery outlet, online from thelott.com or via The Lott mobile app.

The official home of Australia’s lotteries, The Lott operates and markets Australia’s leading lottery games customers know and love creating everyday winners, winning every day.

In FY22, more than 133.5 million winners took home more than $3.93 billion in prize money from their favourite games at The Lott, including Saturday Lotto, Monday & Wednesday Lotto, Powerball, Oz Lotto, Set for Life, Lucky Lotteries, Keno, Super 66, Lotto Strike and Instant Scratch-Its.

Last financial year, Australia’s official lotteries contributed more than $1.6 billion via state lottery taxes and donations to help community initiatives, such as hospitals, health research, disaster relief and education
