The Aussie suburbs, towns and regions where the most division one lottery wins landed this year have been revealed ahead of tomorrow night’s $50 million Oz Lotto draw.

The $50 million prize is the biggest jackpot Oz Lotto has offered in more than a year. Up to one-in-six Aussie adults are expected to have an entry into the draw.

According to data crunched by The Lott and Lotterywest, in the 11 months ending 30 November 2023, across Australia there were 456 division one winning entries from all lottery games that delivered more than $1.32 billion in division one prize money.

New South Wales reclaimed the title of the state with the most division one wins and most division one prize money: 122 worth more than $450 million.

This tally was assisted by a single player scoring a $100 million Powerball prize in June 2023, becoming the second-biggest individual lottery winner in Australian history.

Across Australia, a total of 340 millionaires were created by division one wins – the equivalent of almost one a day.

New South Wales and the ACT welcomed the most newly minted millionaires, with 106 created from lottery wins during the 11 months.

The data also reveals the suburbs in each state and territory that were home to the outlets that sold the most division one winning entries.

  • In Queensland, the postcode 4211 for Nerang / Pacific Pines sold three division one winning entries.
  • In New South Wales and the ACT, the postcode 2530 for Dapto sold four division one winning entries.
  • In Victoria, the postcodes 3000 for Melbourne, 3754 for Doreen / Mernda, and 3047 for Broadmeadows / Dallas each sold three division one winning entries.
  • In Tasmania, the postcode 7018 for Howrah sold two division one winning entries.
  • In South Australia, the postcode 5095 for Mawson Lakes sold two division one winning entries.
  • In the top-end, the postcode 0839 for Coolalinga delivered two of the Northern Territory’s division one prizes.

The Lott spokesperson Matt Hart said this week’s $50 million Oz Lotto draw was another opportunity to bolster the year’s division one winner tally.

“From Stratford in Far North Queensland to Strahan in Tasmania, Brisbane in Queensland to Busselton in Western Australia, hundreds of Aussies across the country have experienced the indescribable thrill of a division one win this year,” he said.

“In recent months, we’ve seen a steady stream of Australians become Oz Lotto division one winners, which is why the jackpot hasn’t climbed too high.. until now.

“The last time we saw a $50 million Oz Lotto prize was in October last year. In fact, we have to travel as far back as 2019 before we see Oz Lotto offer a jackpot above $50 million. That’s why we expect to see keen interest in this Tuesday’s Oz Lotto draw.

“So far in 2023, there have been 13 Oz Lotto division one winning entries that have collectively taken home more than $233 million in division one prize money.

“There have been three division one winning entries each in New South Wales and Victoria, two each in Queensland, Tasmania, and Western Australia and one in South Australia.

“Some players tell us they deliberately pick outlets that have recently sold a major lottery prize in the hope of continuing the winning streak, while other players choose different outlets, believing lightning won’t strike twice.

“While we saw pockets of major lottery prizes across Australian states and territories this year, it’s important to remember that a division one win can land anywhere at any time.

“As many lottery winners tell us, you’ve got to be in it for the chance to win it!

"It will also be interesting to see if this year's lottery hotspots continue their winning streak for the rest of 2023.”

Entries into Oz Lotto draw 1556 on Tuesday 12 December 2023 can be purchased at any licenced lottery outlet, online from thelott.com or via The Lott mobile app.
