While some people’s New Year’s Eve was a blur, a Bathurst man will always remember the surprise discovery on New Year’s Day that he was suddenly $200,000 richer.
The Central Tablelands local won the guaranteed 1st Prize of $200,000 in Lucky Lotteries Mega Jackpot draw 1468, drawn Tuesday 31 December 2019.
In addition to winning the 1st Prize of $200,000, the man’s entry also won a $2,000 consolation prize.
However, the man didn’t discover his good fortune until the next day, when the new year and new decade had begun.
Speaking to a NSW Lotteries official this afternoon, the man in his 30s recounted how he discovered his win.
“I only had a look at my ticket yesterday, and I couldn’t believe it,” he exclaimed.
“I had to get my family to double-check it for me. It was a bit of shock.
“It’s a good start to the year, that’s for sure. And hopefully a sign of great things to come.”
When asked how he might use his $200,000 windfall in 2020, the man explained some ideas had already begun forming in his mind.
“I’d love to get a new car and also fast track some home renovations we’ve been wanting to do for a while,” he said.
“It’s been a very happy start to 2020!”
The regular player, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased his entry of four consecutive numbers at Silva’s Newsagency, Shop 3, Centrepoint Bathurst, 177 Howick Street, Bathurst.
Silva’s Newagency manager Vicki Howard said she was “over the moon” to see another regular customer win big.
“Yahoo! All the staff here love it when we have a win, especially when it’s a regular customer,” she said.
“We haven’t had a big win for a while, so it was definitely our turn. And what a great time of year to win.
“We’re hoping there are plenty more coming our way in 2020. That would be lovely. Bring it on!”
The Lucky Lotteries Mega Jackpot prize is now $10.05 million for draw 1469 while the Lucky Lotteries Super Jackpot is now $1.54 million for draw 10343.
