A Beachmere woman can’t ‘stop shaking’ over the news she is now $100,000 richer thanks to an Instant Scratch-Its ticket she bought during a last-minute coffee stop.

The top-prize winning Instant Scratch-Its ticket was purchased at B-News, Shop 5, 2 James Road, Beachmere.

Speaking to a Golden Casket official this afternoon to claim her prize, the happy woman described the moment she discovered she was an instant winner.

“Yesterday I went to the newsagency and checked the two Instant Scratch-Its tickets I bought on the weekend,” she explained.

“I won $50 and so I decided to buy a lottery ticket and two of the Crosswords Instant Scratch-Its tickets.

“I went home afterwards and scratched the tickets. At first, I thought I had scratched eight words and won $750, but then I looked at it again and thought ‘Wait, no, that’s nine words!’

“But I didn’t believe my eyes. I thought a winning ticket would look a bit different and it just looked the same as the rest.

“I sat back and couldn’t stop shaking. I can’t tell you how many times I checked that ticket, I just kept thinking ‘Have I read this right? Surely not.’.

“I decided to go up the road to the newsagency and she said ‘I think you have won the top prize, do you want a rum and coke or a seat?’ because I couldn’t stop shaking you see.

The woman revealed that after the initial shock, she went home and called her husband.

“He thought there was something wrong with me because my voice was so shaky. When I told him I thought I won $100,000, he didn’t believe me.

“The funny thing is, I wasn’t even going to go to this newsagency. Originally I was going shopping but then I couldn’t be bothered so I went for a coffee and went into the newsagency at Beachmere and that’s when I bought the winning ticket.

“It’s mind-boggling really! I am so happy.”

When asked how she planned to spend her instant prize, the over-the-moon winner admitted she needed time to think about it.

“I need to come to terms with the fact that I have just won $100,000,” she said.

“I think I will put it in the bank and have a think about it.

“I want to make sure we use it wisely, and we can gain some interest on it.

“Tonight though, we will have a wonderful dinner and crack some champagne to celebrate.”

B-News employee Debra Cornett said the outlet was ecstatic to have sold a top-prize winning Instant Scratch-Its ticket.

“Yay, we are so happy for the customer. It is brilliant” she said.

“The winner was so excited, she was shaking a lot!

“It’s great that it was a local and regular customer.

“We can’t wait to sell some more winning tickets to our customers.”

Last financial year, there were 158 Instant Scratch-Its top prize winners across the Lott’s jurisdictions who collectively took home more than $11.28 million.

It can happen in an instant. It could happen to you.
