One Katoomba shopper is on a high this week after revealing one of the top prizes of $250,000 on a $10 Instant Scratch-its ticket they bought in the Blue Mountains.

Collecting their top prize from NSW Lotteries this morning, the winner shared they were still reeling from the shock of scratching the massive windfall.

Their prize was only revealed towards the end of their game – when one of their “Lucky Numbers” matched the $250,000 top prize on the bottom row of the ticket.

With their bank balance about to balloon by $250,000, the winner has already begun contemplating how they will use their instant prize. But exactly what they will do will forever remain a mystery as the winner has chosen to remain completely anonymous.

From overseas holidays to new cars, NSW Lotteries spokesperson Matt Hart said top prize Instant Scratch-Its winners often used their prize in many surprising ways.

“Many winners tell us they simply don’t believe their eyes when they scratch a top prize, and often call upon their family and friends to check and double check their ticket,” he said.

“But once the prize hits their bank account, they know it’s real and use it to enjoy a holiday, buy a new car, or even pay off part of the mortgage. One winner even told us he bought several Dyson vacuum cleaners – one for each of his friends.”

Katoomba Newsagency owner Ray Cameron said he was stunned to learn a an Instant Scratch-Its ticket bearing such a big top prize had been lying in wait for one of their customers.

“You’re joking!” he exclaimed.

“Oh good one! That’s great to hear. That’s certainly the biggest top prize on an Instant Scratch-Its we’ve ever sold.

“I’m sure our winner will find lots of good uses for that!”

Last financial year, there were 158 Instant Scratch-Its top prize winners across the Lott’s jurisdictions who collectively took home more than $11.28 million.
