Mystery Canberra player yet to discover multi-million-dollar windfall
Someone in Canberra has started 2022 unaware they’re now a newly-minted multi-millionaire.
They hold one of the two ACT division one winning entries from Lotto’s $40 million Megadraw on New Year’s Eve. The entry was purchased at My Gifts ‘n’ Paper, Shops 36-37, Riverside Plaza, 131 Monaro Street, Queanbeyan.
As this winning entry is unregistered, officials from The Lott have no way of contacting the winner to break the life-changing news. Instead, they’re waiting for the ticketholder to come forward to claim their prize.
My Gifts ‘n’ Paper owner Ken Patel said he hoped his elusive winner checked their ticket soon and realised their exciting win.
“When I saw we’d sold a division one winning ticket, I was thrilled, excited and wondered who the lucky customer was,” he said.
“We’ve been waiting for this news for a long time. It's a really nice feeling to sell a ticket that can change someone’s life.
“I wish our winner the very best and I hope all their wishes can be fullfilled. We’re thrilled to have delivered some smiles, joy and prosperity to their lives.”

Each of the 10 syndicate members received a share worth $236,459.86.
However, as some of the syndicate members were unregistered, they may have yet to discover their division one winning news.
Shares into the division one winning syndicate were sold at Gifts ‘n’ Lotto Xpress Belconnen Westfield, Shop 113, Westfield Shoppingtown, 18 Benjamin Way, Belconnen.
Gifts ‘n’ Lotto Xpress Belconnen Westfield owner Dhara Patel said it was the first division one winning entry her outlet had sold since she took ownership in 2020.
“This is life-changing news. We hope all our winning syndicate members’ dreams come true,” she said.
“We’ve already had a few of the syndicate members come in and discover the news. I’m keen to see the rest of the syndicate winners and share the news with them.”
The Lott spokesperson Matt Hart said he encouraged everyone in the ACT who had an entry into the New Year’s Eve Megadraw to check their tickets as soon as possible.
“You could be the mystery division one winner we’re looking for or be part of this winning Belconnen syndicate,” he said.
