It’s possible someone in Melbourne has gone about their morning unaware they won an $8 million prize in last night’s Oz Lotto draw and have become an instant multi-millionaire.

The mystery Melbourne player held the only division one winning entry nationally in Oz Lotto draw 1601, drawn Tuesday 22 October 2024. They take home $8 million.

The winning entry is unregistered, which means officials from The Lott have no way of contacting the ticketholder to reveal the exciting news and must wait for the winner to check their ticket.

The division one winning entry was purchased at Central Station News, Shop Lg 13, Melbourne Central, 211 La Trobe Street, Melbourne.

Central Station News owner Shuxia Tang said the $8 million win was the biggest division one winning entry her team has sold, and she was over the moon to discover the news.

“It’s very exciting! My manager Yan Pan and I worked yesterday morning so it could have been either of us that sold the multi-million dollar division one winning ticket,” she said.

“Both of us are super excited for our mystery winner. This is the biggest division one winning entry that we’ve ever sold, and we’ve sold nine entries since 2009!

“The last time we sold a division one winning entry was earlier this year in March, and it was a syndicate entry. It’s so great to see our outlet continue to sell division one winning entries!

“This $8 million win could truly change this mystery person’s life, and I can imagine they’ll be super shocked when they check their ticket. Congratulations to the very blessed division one winner!

“Thank you to all of our customers that have supported us over the 15 years of operating. The support is greatly appreciated!”

The Lott spokesperson Anna Hobdell said someone’s life had completely changed last night, but they might not have realised it yet.

“Imagine going to bed tonight not knowing you’ve just won $8 million in Oz Lotto! That’s the reality for one mystery Victorian player after scoring division one in Tuesday’s draw,” she said.

“While we’ve been unable to confirm the division one win with the winner, we’re sure that when they check their ticket and discover their news, they’ll be jumping for joy.

“We’re encouraging everyone to check their entries because they might be the newly-minted multi-millionaire we’re searching for!

“If you think you’re holding this very valuable entry, please call The Lott on 131 868 to start the process of claiming your prize.

“This is a great reminder to all lottery players to register your ticket to an online account or players card because if you scored a life-changing prize we could call you immediately after the draw with the exhilarating news.”
