A Rockhampton couple is ready for a family Christmas to remember, while a Melbourne player may have yet to discover they’re now a multi-millionaire after both shared tonight’s $100 million Powerball jackpot.

There were two division one winning entries nationally in Powerball draw 1489, drawn Thursday 28 November 2024. Each division one winning entry pocketed $50 million.

An official from The Lott surprised the winning Rockhampton couple with the life-changing news immediately after the draw.

However, the Victorian winner held an unregistered ticket, which means The Lott officials must wait for them to check their ticket and come forward to start the prize claim process.

If the mystery player had registered their entry to The Lott Members Club, lottery officials would have been able to reach out to them this evening to break the incredible news.

In addition to the two division one winning entries, there were 3,080,963 prizes worth more than $62.5 million in divisions two to nine. This included 11 division two winners who each took home $158,200.15.

A bright future awaits Rockhampton grandparents with $50 million Powerball prize

A Rockhampton couple braced themselves for another solar panel sales pitch tonight, only to discover the call was from lottery officials lighting up their lives with a $50 million Powerball prize.

The Central Queenslanders held one of the two division one winning entries nationally in tonight’s Powerball draw.

The unsuspecting newly-minted multi-millionaires answered the life-changing phone from The Lott immediately after tonight’s draw.

“You’re joking?!” the winning grandmother laughed.

“I’m in disbelief. I can’t believe it. This doesn’t happen to us.

“I expected you to ask if we have solar panels, not to tell us we’ve just won $50 million!

“We’re multi-millionaires. I can’t believe I'm saying that. It’s going to take a while to wrap my head around it.

“I’ve been playing for a long time now – since the game first started. I had always used the same numbers, but this ticket was just a QuickPick.

“I’m in a total state of shock.

“We’ve been pretty happy in life, but this is the icing on the cake.”

With $50 million about to brighten their bank account just in time for the festive season, the dynamic duo looked forward to sharing the multi-million-dollar prize with family.

“It helps the family that’s for sure. ‘Family first’ is what we always say,” she added.

“We’ll have lots more time together now too. I don’t think they’re going to believe us when we tell them.

“There’s going to be a few more prezzies under the tree on Christmas day.”

Their 8-game QuickPick winning entry was purchased from Card & Paper Shop, Shop 066, Stockland, Yaamba Road, North Rockhampton.

Card & Paper Shop owner Janet Dingley shared she was overjoyed to hear that her outlet had sold a division one winning Powerball ticket worth $50 million.

“It feels wonderful to know we’ve played a role in completely changing someone’s life!” she said.

“This is our tenth division one win ever, and it was only two weeks ago that we sold a division one winning entry worth $2 million! It’s unreal to see our outlet on a bit of a winning streak.

“We’re so grateful for our regular and loyal customers who continue to support us. We hope one of you was rewarded with a life-changing win this time around.

“We’ll be filling the store from floor to ceiling with balloons, and signage, while also spreading the wonderful news with our community far and wide.

Congratulations to our winner! We’re so excited for you and we wish you all the very best.”

Mystery City of Darebin player yet to come forward and claim $50 million Powerball prize

A player from Melbourne’s City of Darebin is poised to receive a healthy boost to their bank balance just in time for Christmas, but first they need to check their Powerball ticket and discover their $50 million win.

If the mystery player had registered their entry to The Lott Members Club, lottery officials would have been able to reach out to them this evening to break the incredible news.

Instead, they are eagerly waiting for the ticketholder to check their ticket and make contact to start the prize claim process.

The Lott spokesperson Anna Hobdell said she hoped Victoria’s newest multi-millionaire realised their good fortune soon.

“What a way to end 2024 and welcome 2025!” she said.

“We can’t wait to unite this mystery winner with their $50 million prize and have that incredibly special conversation about what their future might hold.

“After a week full of excitement and possibility many Australians have dreamed of winning a slice of the $100 million jackpot and having an unforgettable Christmas season.

“We’re encouraging all City of Darebin residents and visitors to check their entries, because you may just discover you’ve won an exhilarating prize set to change the course of your future.

“If you discover you're the newly minted multi-millionaire we’re searching for, call 131 868 to begin the exciting prize claim process.

“This is an important reminder to all players to always register their tickets to an online account or players card with The Lott Members Club. If the mystery player had registered their entry, we would have been able to reach out to them this evening.”
