An Edgeworth woman won’t be sweltering through the heat this summer after scratching one of the top prizes of $10,000 on a $1 Instant Scratch-Its ticket.
The winning $1 Santa’s Li’l Helper Instant Scratch-Its ticket was purchased at Edgeworth Newsagency, Shop 9, 720 Main Road, Edgeworth.
Sharing her excitement with a NSW Lotteries official this afternoon, the woman relived the moment she made the exciting discovery.
“I scratched the ticket straight after I bought it, as soon as I got home,” she explained.
“I didn’t have my glasses on and I thought I’d won $1,000.
“I was so thrilled about that and then my friend came over and checked the ticket for me, that’s when I realised it was in fact $10,000!
“I bought a couple of $1 scratchies and it was the first one I scratched.
“I couldn’t believe it! It’s amazing.”
When asked how she planned to enjoy her instant windfall, the winner revealed she’d be beating the heat this summer.
“I went and bought an air conditioner straight away,” she laughed.
“There’s no way I’m spending another summer without one! It’s such a treat.
“It’s a great time of the year to win this exciting prize.
“I’m going to really enjoy it!”
Edgeworth Newsagency co-owner Kaite Atikinson said it was the first time they’d sold a winning Instant Scratch-Its ticket.
“We are ecstatic!” she exclaimed.
“We took over ownership of the store in February and this is the major prize one of our customers has won since.
“We hope this is the first of many.
“Congratulations to the winner! We hope they really enjoy their prize.”
Between 1 July 2018 and 30 June 2019, there were 118 Instant Scratch-Its top prize winners across the Lott’s jurisdictions who collectively took home more than $12.14 million in top prizes.
During this same time, Instant Scratch-Its players enjoyed more than 27.6 million wins across all prize tiers worth more than $214.2 million.
