A Geelong apprentice has two things to celebrate this week – qualifying as a chef and winning $25,000 on an Instant Scratch-Its ticket.

The top prize winning $2 Bring Home The Bacon Instant Scratch-Its ticket was sold at East Geelong Discount Drug Store, 1 Ormond Road, Breakwater.

Confirming his win with an official from The Lott this morning, the blissful winner said he was flying high after his discovery.

“I actually had a win on those exact same tickets a few weeks ago,” he explained.

“So when I was out some groceries, I handed in the ticket that won $20 and bought a few more of them with the winnings.

“The winning one was the very last ticket I scratched. I was completely shocked! I actually screamed.

“My partner was with me too and she couldn’t believe it. She was stunned!

“We did celebrate that night. I called all my family and told them and they were blown away. Then I had some beers, and it was really good.

“I am beyond happy! I have never won anything like this.

“I actually qualify as an apprentice chef this week too, so it feels as though I am really lucky! It’s only good vibes here.”

When asked how he planned to enjoy his instant windfall, the triumphant winner said he already knew exactly what he was going to do.

“I am going to put some of it towards a house deposit,” he explained.

“I have never seen the snow either, so we want to go to New Zealand for a winter holiday.”

East Geelong Discount Drug Store team member Zoe Kirkwood said they were delighted to hear one of their customers had won a major prize.

“We are very excited about the win,” she shared.

“It’s amazing to know we’ve helped change our winner’s life. We hope they have some great plans for their prize.

“We would love to send our congratulations to our winner. We hope to see you again soon!

“We hadn’t sold a major prize for a while, so we have been waiting to sell another.”

In 2020, there were 177 Instant Scratch-Its top prize winners across The Lott’s jurisdictions who collectively took home more than $16 million in top prizes.

During this same time, Instant Scratch-Its players enjoyed more than 32.3 million wins across all prize tiers worth more than $281.17 million. This equates to more than three-quarters of a million dollars won on Instant Scratch-Its every day.
