A Glenroy couple have started the New Year with a bang after their simple daily tradition of picking up the paper and an Instant Scratch-Its ticket delivered them a top prize of $100,000.
Their $5 Crosswords Christmas Edition Instant Scratch-Its ticket was purchased at Glenroy Newsagency, 773 Pascoe Vale Road, Glenroy.
When an official from The Lott spoke with them yesterday, they were still grappling with the reality of their windfall.
“It’s all a bit surreal. It’s not every day you win something like this!” the winning husband said.
“We buy an Instant Scratch-Its ticket pretty much daily. We normally grab a ticket when we get the newspaper, and we’ve done that for years! It’s a little tradition my wife and I have.
“It’s such a great start to the year. We’ll get a few Christmas bills out of the way, and we haven’t really had time to think about what else we’ll do.
“We only scratched the ticket at 8am this morning, so we’re still in shock. We haven’t been able to wipe the smiles off our faces.
“I think I triple checked it about 500 times! After that, it was a crazy morning running around. We’re just pensioners, so it’ll come in handy. We’ll do something nice for ourselves.
“I always buy my tickets from Glenroy Newsagency. They are wonderful and I’m glad they’ve got a win!”
