A Heidelberg man admitted he is feeling ‘a bit jumpy, a bit shaky’ after realising what he first thought was a hoax, was real and he’d won the First Prize in Set for Life.

The Victorian player scored the First Prize of $20,000 a month for 20 years in Set for Life draw 1629, drawn Tuesday 21 January 2020.

Speaking with a Tatts official this afternoon, the shocked winner admitted he couldn’t comprehend the news he’d won the life-changing prize.

“This is bloody great!” he laughed.

“This is unreal! It’s amazing.

“It doesn’t feel real.

“When I saw the email from the Lott last night I thought it was a hoax. I am glad you’ve called to confirm this, but it is still very hard to believe.

“I am stoked!

“I’m feeling a bit jumpy, a bit shaky.

“I’ve only recently started playing Set for Life.

“I’d heard there were changes coming to the game, so I did some research and I liked that you buy one ticket and it plays across seven consecutive draws. So I decided to give it a go. Turns out it was the right game for me!”

When asked how he planned to enjoy his windfall, the stoked bloke said he would be sitting down tonight to start making plans.

“I think I might retire from work,” he said.

“I’ll plan a few holidays too, probably overseas and some around Australia.

“Of course I will help my family as well.

“I definitely will celebrate tonight now that I know it’s real. Thank you so much.”

The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased his winning 10 Set entry online at thelott.com – Australia’s official lotteries.

The winning numbers in Set for Life draw 1629 were 9, 7, 30, 37, 5, 10, 24 and 14, with the bonus numbers 34 and 36.

The Victorian winner is the 56th Set for Life First Prize winner nationally since the game began, and the second Victorian Set for Life First Prize winner in a week.

Between 1 January and 31 December 2019, there were 11 Set for Life First Prize winners across Australia who will receive $52.8 million during the next 20 years.

As at 31 December 2019, $29.64 million in monthly payments of $20,000 had been paid to the 54 Set for Life First Prize winners across Australia.
