In an unexpected twist of fortune, a Para Hills woman’s humble win in a recent Powerball draw has led her to an even bigger surprise – a $100,000 Instant Scratch-Its win.

The City of Salisbury resident’s winning $5 Crosswords Plus Instant Scratch-Its ticket was purchased at Redwood Park IGA Everyday, 414 Milne Road, Redwood Park.

When an official from The Lott called to confirm the thrilling news, the stunned winner shared she’d been walking around smiling and shaking her head in disbelief ever since she scratched the winning ticket.

“It’s still very surreal,” she said.

“I’ve been walking around smiling and shaking my head the last couple of days. I’m stuck in a daze.

“It’s funny, it all started with a Powerball ticket that I recently won $50 on. Instead of taking the winnings, I thought I’d buy a handful of Instant Scratch-Its tickets.

“When I brought the Instant Scratch-Its tickets home, my partner said, ‘Great, we can keep those as presents’.

“I didn’t listen to him and decided to scratch a few while I had a cup of coffee.

“If it were up to him, we would’ve been putting the winning ticket in a birthday card and never seeing it again.

“It wasn’t a usual Sunday morning by any stretch of the imagination. We spent half the day checking over the ticket. We couldn’t believe it was real.”

With $100,000 soon to hit her bank account, the elated woman shared she had a few ideas on how she’d enjoy her prize.

“Oh look, there’s a lot of things we’d love to do,” she explained.

“I think we’ll look to do something practical first and foremost.

“Maybe a bit of travel next year. I think we’ll do a trip we never could’ve done otherwise.”

In 2024, there were 142 Instant Scratch-Its top prize winners across The Lott’s jurisdictions who collectively took home more than $11.8 million in top prizes.

During this same time, Instant Scratch-Its players enjoyed more than 25.6 million wins across all prize tiers worth more than $251.4 million. This equates to almost half a million winners and more than $4.8 million won on Instant Scratch-Its each week.
