While the nation endures a sweltering start to 2024, Powerball is continuing to turn up the heat and break new ground with a record-breaking $200 million up for grabs in next Thursday’s draw.

The record jackpot comes after no players held a division one winning entry in tonight’s Powerball draw, prompting the game’s prize to roll higher for the sixth consecutive week.

The $200 million Powerball prize is the largest jackpot offered by any Australian lottery game in history, breaking the previous $160 million Powerball jackpot record set in 2022.

While no entries scored the division one prize in tonight’s $150 million Powerball draw, a total of 5,102,570 prizes worth more than $103 million were won in divisions two to nine.

Among these winners, there were 26 division two winners, who each took home a prize of $110,213.60. These winners were just one number shy of taking home the multi-million-dollar prize.

The Lott spokesperson James Eddy said Powerball was excited to welcome the record-breaking draw and expected Australian lottery players would be daydreaming of what could be if they bagged a slice of the division one prize.

“The new year has brought with it an incredible opportunity for Australian lottery players – the chance to change their lives and become the largest lottery winner in the history of Australian lotteries,” he said.

“It’s unfathomable what winning even just a slice of next week’s $200 million Powerball division one prize would do for you this year and for the rest of your life.

“I know I’m excited, so I can imagine Australian lottery players are rubbing their hands together at the thought of bagging $200 million and taking home the crown as the largest lottery winner in Australian history.

“To give an indication of the scale of excitement projected for the upcoming draw, the peak of sales for this week’s $150 million Powerball draw was at 6:15pm when Aussies grabbed 7,455 entries in a single minute.

“There’s of course only one way to make sure you’re in it with the chance to change your life forever, and that’s by ensuring you have an entry in Thursday’s Powerball draw.

“We’re expecting Australian lottery players to pour into lottery outlets and jump online as we approach Thursday night, with up to half of Australian adults expected to have an entry into the record-breaking draw.

“And if you want to make sure you know of your division one winning news immediately following the draw, make sure you register your entry to a player card or online account.

“Will we crown the largest individual lottery winner in Australian history on Thursday night? We can’t wait to find out!”

The winning numbers in Powerball draw 1445 on Thursday 25 January 2024 were 21, 9, 27, 6, 1, 26 and 4. The all-important Powerball number was 10.

The official home of Australia’s lotteries, The Lott operates and markets Australia’s leading lottery games customers know and love creating everyday winners, winning every day.

In 2023, more than 122.7 million wins took home more than $3.76 billion in prize money from their favourite games at The Lott, including Saturday Lotto, Monday & Wednesday Lotto, Powerball, Oz Lotto, Set for Life, Lucky Lotteries, Keno (SA), Super 66, Lotto Strike and Instant Scratch-Its.

Last financial year, Australia’s official lotteries contributed more than $1.6 billion via state lottery taxes and donations to help community initiatives, such as hospitals, health research, disaster relief and education.
