Does your name start with the letter S? Aussies with that first name initial enjoyed the most lottery wins in 2022, new data reveals.

Research released by The Lott has uncovered the first name initials, gender, and age groups of those who took out division one wins across all lottery games in 2022.

In the 12 months ending 31 December 2022, players with the first initial S snagged the most division one wins across all lottery games with 10.11% of wins (table 1).

The Jacks, Jades and Jacobs of the country fell short of first place for a second year in a row, with the initial J taking out 9.57% of total wins in 2022.

Those with the initial A ranked third in 2022, accounting for 8% of all major lottery wins.

It was less fortunate for the Owens, Ursulas, Xanders, and Zacs of Australia, as there were no winners with names starting with O, U, X or Z in 2022. There was only one person with the initial Q who took out a division one win in 2022.

The Lott spokesperson Anna Hobdell said only time would tell who would win big in 2023.

“Last year, we broke the winning news to an abundance of Australians who were ecstatic to join the winners club,” she said.

“While it’s always fun to delve into the history books, it’s important to remember that anyone with a ticket in their hand has a chance of winning regardless of their name, birth date or gender.

“We can’t wait to see what winners’ trends emerge this year, and how many Australians will join this year’s winners club – only time will tell!”
