The Lott’s network of more than 3,800 licensed outlets will receive a boost to their commission on sales of most lottery products under changes to commission rates.
The Lott spokesperson Matt Hart said the commission retailers received from the sale of selected lottery games would increase from 10.3% to 12.3%.
“The increase will help support the ongoing commercial viability of our retailers,” he said.
“This retailer commission increase is just one of the initiatives we are planning to ensure our retailers are rewarded and motivated to deliver a premium customer experience.”
The commission increases will be supported by a small increase in ticket prices across several lottery games.
The Lott’s ticket prices for Saturday Lotto, Monday & Wednesday Lotto, Oz Lotto, Set for Life, Super 66 and Lotto Strike will increase by an average of 2% from 19 May 2023. The ticket prices for Instant Scratch-Its, Lucky, Coin Toss (SA) and Keno (SA) will remain unchanged.
For example, the price of a 12-game Saturday Lotto entry will increase from $9.95 to $10.10 from 19 May 2023.
In addition to the commission increase, the subscription price for Powerball will increase by 10 cents per game from 19 May 2023 to improve the chances of bigger division one jackpots and bigger prizes across divisions two to nine. There are no changes to the way Powerball is played or the chances of winning prizes.
For example, the price of a 12-game Powerball entry will increase from $14.60 to $16.15 from 19 May 2023 (this includes the increase in the subscription price and increase in commission to retailers).
“Australian lottery players have told us they wanted the chance to win bigger jackpots more often. By increasing Powerball’s prize pool through the first subscription price increase in several years, we hope to deliver just that,” Mr Hart said.
The official home of Australia’s lotteries, The Lott operates and markets Australia’s leading lottery games in all Australian states and territories, except for Western Australia.
In 2022, more than 135.3 million winners took home more than $4.14 billion in prize money from their favourite games at The Lott, including Saturday Lotto, Monday & Wednesday Lotto, Powerball, Oz Lotto, Set for Life, Lucky Lotteries, Keno, Super 66, Lotto Strike and Instant Scratch-Its.
Last financial year, Australia’s official lotteries contributed more than $1.6 billion via state lottery taxes and donations to help community initiatives, such as hospitals, health research, disaster relief and education.
