2021 may be the year of the Ox but as the Lunar New Year commences, The Lott can reveal which Chinese Zodiac signs took out the most division one wins in 2020.

Ahead of this weekend’s $20 million Saturday Lotto Superdraw, The Lott has crunched the data and found that in the 12 months ending 31 December 2020, it was players born in the year of the Pig who scored the most division one prizes, making up 12.9% of all major prize winners (table 1).

The year of the Pig is the Zodiac sign for people born in the years including 1923, 1935, 1947, 1959, 1971, 1983 and 1995. As the last sign of the Chinese Zodiac, people born in the year of the Pig are said to be optimistic, generous, and good-mannered.

It was those born in the year or the Snake that came in second. Known to be sociable, charming and clever, players born in the years including 1941, 1953, 1965, 1977, 1989 and 2001 took home 9.8% of division one prizes in 2020.

Players born in the year of the Dragon (1940, 1952, 1964, 1976, 1988 and 2000) followed closely behind, making up 9.5% of division one winners. People born under this sign are said to be energetic, charismatic and make great leaders.

Those born in the year of the Ox, Horse and Rabbit may be hoping their fortunes change in 2021, as they were the zodiac signs that won the fewest major prizes last year.

The Lott spokesperson Lauren Cooney said maybe things will turn around for these players with this weekend’s $20 million Saturday Lotto Superdraw.

“2020 was certainly a successful year for lottery players born in the year of the Pig and as we commence the year of the Ox – it could be their turn for a prosperous 2021,” she said.

“Only time will tell who scores a slice of this weekend’s incredible $20 million Superdraw.

“Whatever your Chinese Zodiac sign is, it’s important to remember that lottery games are entertaining games of chance and every number on your ticket has an equal chance of being drawn, no matter what year you were born in.

“For anyone buying an entry into the weekend’s draw, we recommend that you register your entry to a player card or online account. This means your prize is secure and we can call you with the amazing news should you be holding a division one winning entry.”
