Imagine discovering you’re a multi-millionaire on your way to work on a Monday – that was the reality for one Sunshine Coast man this morning.
The man held one of the nine division one winning entries across Australia in Saturday Gold Lotto draw 3873 on 1 September 2018. Each entry took home a division one prize of $2.22 million.
As well as winning division one, the man’s marked System 8 entry also won division two twice, division three 6 times and division four 6 times, bolstering his total prize to $2,299,793.23.
Speaking to a Golden Casket official first thing this morning, the man couldn’t contain his excitement at becoming an overnight multi-millionaire.
“Wahoo!” he exclaimed when his prize was confirmed.
“Oh thank you! How good is this? It’s magnificent.
“I woke up this morning and thought ‘life is going to change today’ and holy hell – what a day! I’ve just checked my Gold Lotto ticket on the way to work – I may not make it in now.
“It’s unbelievable!”
The Sunshine Coast resident also shared his unique technique for picking the numbers on his marked entry.
“They’re all one number higher than our birthdays. I always used to miss out by one number so a year and a half ago I decided to change my numbers. I’m glad I did!
While the shock of the win was still sinking in, the man said he would share the prize with those at the top of his Lotto List – his beloved family.
“We’ll look after the kids and look after ourselves.
“I think an early retirement sounds good too!”
The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased his winning marked System 8 entry at Parklands News, Shop 4, 238 Parklands Boulevard, Meridan Plains.
Parklands News owner Chris Farley said he was thrilled to have sold the first division one winning entry since he and his wife took over the outlet last year.
“We’ve finally got the monkey off our back! Everyone’s been asking when we were going to sell our first division one. We’ve sold a few division two entries, but it’s great to have a division one!” he said.
“We wish our winner all the best with their prize!”
So far this calendar year, Monday & Wednesday Gold Lotto and Saturday Gold Lotto have created 128 millionaires across Australia.
The winning numbers in Saturday Gold Lotto draw 3873 on Saturday 1 September 2018 were 36, 16, 14, 10, 43 and 5, while the supplementary numbers were 19 and 18.
Across Australia there were nine division one winning entries in Saturday Gold Lotto draw 3873 – three each from Victoria and New South Wales, and one each from Queensland, Western Australia and South Australia.
The Lott’s division one winning tally has now reached 275 so far this calendar year, including 62 won by Golden Casket customers.
Last financial year, there were 290 division one winning Saturday Gold Lotto entries across the Lott’s jurisdictions, which collectively won more than $302.7 million.
