Despite the ongoing drought in Nairne, a local woman is feeling more upbeat about the new year after revealing a $100,000 prize on an Instant Scratch-Its ticket she received from her daughter for Christmas.

The happy winner’s top prize winning $5 Crosswords Christmas Edition ticket was purchased at Nairne LPO, 121 Old Princes Highway, Nairne.

“I think I’m still in shock!” the woman exclaimed when speaking to an official from The Lott.

“It was a Christmas gift from our daughter.

“I scratched it Christmas night when my husband had gone out to look after the chickens and when he came back, I was looking at him.

“I said, ‘I think we’ve won $100,000’. He didn’t believe me.

“I swear I’ve checked the ticket 20 times. I’ve written down the words and checked them.

“This doesn’t happen to people like us.

“We’ve always said in our family that if we ever were to win big, we’ll share the prize with our children – not thinking that we ever would. The whole family will benefit from this.

“It’s been a tough year with the drought, but this will help us tremendously in 2026.”

Nairne LPO manager Emily said this was the first top prize winning Instant Scratch-Its ticket her outlet had sold.

“When we first heard we’d sold it, we were just overwhelmed with excitement and joy for this customer. This is life changing – especially at this time of year,” she said.

“We’d love to wish our winner all the best with this life changing news. What a great way to start 2026!”
