Set for Life will become the first official Australian lottery game to offer a fixed monthly prize to both division one and division two winners when game changes come into play on 23 March.
The unique game already offers division one winners $20,000 a month for 20 years for up to four winners in each draw. To date, there have been 58 Set for Life division one winners who will collectively receive $278.4 million.
From Set for Life draw 1691 on Monday 23 March 2020, the game’s division two winners will receive $5,000 a month for a year – a total of $60,000 (for up to four winners in every draw).
Currently, like most other official lottery games, the Set for Life division two prize varies depending on the prize pool generated by the volume of entries.
The new Set for Life division two prize will be about 10 times the game’s current division two prize. It will also be one of the biggest division two prizes offered by any Australian lottery game (see Table 1).
Other exciting changes to the game, including the numbers drawn and the numbers needed to win, aim to deliver more overall winners in every draw by improving the chances of winning any prize.

The Lott spokesperson Ally Ramsamy said the Set for Life game changes would enhance Australia’s newest lottery game.
“Since it was first introduced almost five years ago, Set for Life has captured the imagination of Aussies dreaming of receiving a hefty $20,000 addition to their bank account every month for 20 years,” she said.
“In future, new division two winners, up to four in each draw, can look forward to $5,000 coming their way every month for a year – that’s 12 months of enjoying that winning feeling.”
Ms Ramsamy said she also hoped the new game changes would deliver more winners in every draw.
“We’re always looking to improve our lottery games using the feedback from our players, and these changes add an exciting new dimension to Set for Life,” she said.
“By tweaking the game matrix, the chances of winning any prize has increased from 1-in-59 to 1-in-50, while the chances of winning division one have also improved.”
As Set for Life division one winners enjoyed how their prize was paid in instalments, Ms Ramsamy said she was excited to see this concept of a fixed annuity prize expanded to other divisions.
“Our previous Set for Life division one winners have told us they love that their prize is paid on the 15th of each month because it allows them to plan for the future and it prolongs that winning feeling.”
“Every month I have a little ‘woohoo’ moment. I still can't really believe it until that money lands in my account every month - it's awesome!” – Queensland Set for Life division one winner
“We circle the 15th of each month in our calendar and I still log into our bank account just to see it in there. We still get so excited!” – Victorian Set for Life division one winner
"Having the prize paid monthly means that exciting moment of seeing the money in our account keeps on coming! We still have a budget, but it’s a very large budget. It’s the best feeling.” – Queensland Set for Life division one winner
In 2019, there were 11 Set for Life division one winners across Australia who will collectively receive $52,800,000 million during the next 20 years.
As at 9 March 2020, $31.96 million in monthly payments of $20,000 had been paid to the 58 Set for Life division one winners across Australia.
