Up to one-in-three Australian adults are expected to have their hands on a ticket for tomorrow night’s $40 Million Megadraw as they vie for the chance to start 2022 as a newly-minted millionaire.

On Friday 31 December 2021, the day of the draw, more than 2,000 Lotto tickets a minute are expected to be sold in-store and online at peak times.

The Lott spokesperson Matt Hart said the $40 million jackpot was the biggest prize ever offered by Lotto’s annual Megadraw event.

“The Megadraw has a reputation for being a millionaire maker. In previous years, it’s created more millionaires in a single night than any other draw,” he said.

“The last Megadraw saw 19 division one winning entries share the jackpot, with each entry enjoying a $1.5 million prize.

“Given the challenges of 2021, I’m sure many Aussies are keen for the chance to kick-start the New Year with a bang and will be eagerly awaiting the draw on Friday night.

“You’d really have something to celebrate this New Year’s Eve with a division one prize in your pocket.”

While Lotto is a game of chance and every number has an equal chance of being drawn, The Lott can reveal the most frequently and least frequently drawn Lotto numbers during the past 35 years.

The most frequently drawn, or ‘hot’, numbers during this time were 1, 11, 8, 22 and 40.

Meanwhile, the least frequently drawn, or ‘cold’ numbers were 44, 14, 30, 27 and 17.

In less than 48 hours, Mr Hart said a select group of division one winners across the country could be contemplating 2022 as a millionaire.

“Will Lotto’s ‘hot’ and ‘cold’ numbers live up to their reputation on New Year’s Eve? Only time will tell,” he said.

“We know some people will be marking their entry with their favourite numbers, and perhaps even some of these hot and cold numbers, while others will simply let the lottery terminal do the work and determine the numbers on their ticket for them.

“Either way, if you have a ticket in your hand, you’re in with a chance.

“For the last Megadraw, the peak of sales was at 10.36am on the day of the draw when more than 2,900 entries were sold in a single minute.

“For anyone buying an entry, I recommend that you get in early and register your entry to a player card or online account. This means your prize is secure and we can call you with the amazing news should you be holding a division one winning entry.”

Lotto’s $40 Million Megadraw, draw 4221, will take place on Friday 31 December 2021.

Tickets can be purchased at any licensed lottery outlet, online from thelott.com or via The Lott mobile app before the draw close at 7.30pm AEST.
