Be careful what you write on: that’s the advice from a Newcastle man whose ‘doodle pad’ was actually an unregistered Lucky Lotteries Super Jackpot ticket worth $100,000.

The retired man’s ticket won the guaranteed $100,000 1st prize in Lucky Lotteries Super Jackpot draw 10234 on Monday 2 July 2018.

As the winning entry was not registered to a Players Club Card, NSW Lotteries officials had no way of contacting the winner to break the life-changing news.

Speaking to a NSW Lotteries official this morning to claim his prize, the happy winner confessed that before he realised he was holding a winning ticket, he was using it as a ‘doodle pad’ to jot down cat names.

“With this ticket, I was just doodling on it,” he explained.

“We got a new cat and I was writing down all the names of the cats that we’ve had, trying to think of a new name. That’s all written on the back of the bloody thing.

“The next minute, I look on the internet and see I’ve won and thought ‘sh##! I’ve written all over the back of this bloody ticket. I hope they still pay it!’.  If you look at the back of the ticket, you’ll see all the cats’ names.

“I’ve been trying to win for 60 years, mate!” he laughed.

“I didn’t believe it, mate, I only found it on the internet. I thought ‘what’s going on here?’. I looked at it again. I went and got my glasses. My heart nearly finished me off!”

The cat-loving winner said he knew exactly what he would do with his windfall.

“That will help the kids. I will also go up the coast, have a look around and see a few of my old mates – a bit of a road trip.

“My bank manager will be happy too!”

The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased his winning ticket of two consecutive numbers at Stockton Newsagency, 29 Mitchell Street, Stockton.

Stockton Newsagency owner George Paiva said he was thrilled to hear his Lucky Lotteries winner had been united with their prize.

“This is our second 1st Prize winning Lucky Lotteries entry in three years. So we’ve done pretty well with that game,” he said.

“We didn’t know who the winner was and thought it might have been someone passing through. It’s great one of our local customers has won!”

Last financial year, 113 Lucky Lotteries 1st Prize and Jackpot winning entries across the Lott’s jurisdictions won more than $23.57 million.  During this time, the biggest individual jackpot prize was won by a young Inner-West Sydney man, who took home $6.87 million.

The Lucky Lotteries Mega Jackpot prize is now $15.16 million for draw 1110 while the Lucky Lotteries Super Jackpot is now $630,000 for draw 10236.

NSW Lotteries customers can purchase a single ticket number into the Lucky Lotteries Super Jackpot for $2.20 and the Lucky Lotteries Mega Jackpot for $5.50. For your chance to make today your ‘Lucky’ day, why not get your paws on a Lucky Lotteries ticket at your local NSW Lotteries outlet or online.
