Ten Portland lottery players have woken up this morning as newly-minted millionaires after their syndicate scored a division one win worth over $12 million in last night’s Oz Lotto draw.
The 10-person store syndicate held the only division one winning entry nationally in Oz Lotto draw 1383, drawn Tuesday 18 August 2020, and takes home a division one prize of $12,552,379.34.
As well as winning the coveted division one prize, the syndicate’s System 8 QuickPick entry also scored them division three 7 times, bolstering their total prize to $12,582,613.74.
Each syndicate member receives a share worth $1,258,261.37.
Shares in the syndicate were purchased at Matt’s Lotto, Cards & Gifts, 102 Percey Street, Portland.
Matt’s Lotto, Cards & Gifts owner Matt Jowett said the win was “monumental” for his outlet and the city.
“I took over the store just over a year ago, so this is the first division one winning entry I’ve sold. It’s monumental!” he exclaimed.
“The outlet has been here for about 40 years, and they have sold plenty of division one winning entries during that time, but it’s pretty exciting to have sold one as the new owner.
“This syndicate has been running every week for years. It pre-dates me owning the outlet!
“It’s actually a weekly syndicate that includes every game – a TattsLotto, Monday & Wednesday Lotto, Oz Lotto and Powerball. They just happened to win on the Oz Lotto ticket this week.
“As far as I know, this is the first major prize the syndicate has won.
“There are a few regulars that play it every week, while some others drop in and purchase it sporadically.
“I’m looking forward to telling all of our customers we’ve sold a division one winning entry but what I am looking forward to most is telling my syndicate members they are millionaires.
“It’s amazing they’ve won $12 million, so we have ten people who are now millionaires!”
The Lott spokesperson Bronwyn Spencer said some syndicate members held unregistered entries and may not have discovered their winning news.
“It’s fair to say each syndicate member will get the surprise of their life when they discover their entry is worth over $1.2 million!” she exclaimed.
“While we’ll be reaching out to those syndicate members who registered their entries to their Tatts Cards, there are some syndicate members who have unregistered entries and may not yet know they’re part of this winning group.
“If you purchased a share in a syndicate entry from Matt’s Lotto, Gifts and Cards, today’s the day to check it! If you discover you’re holding a winning share, call Tatts on 131 868 to start the prize claim process!”
The winning numbers in Oz Lotto draw 1383 on Tuesday 18 August 2020 were 45, 43, 10, 22, 26, 12 and 21. The supplementary numbers were 19 and 1.
Across Australia, there was only one division one winning entry in Oz Lotto draw 1383 – the entry from Victoria.
The Lott’s division one winning tally has now reached 252 so far this calendar year, including 101 won by Tatts customers.
Between 1 July 2019 and 30 June 2020, 15 division one winning Oz Lotto entries across Australia collectively won $212.14 million.
During this time, the biggest Oz Lotto jackpot was $50 million on 15 October 2019, which was won by a Leumeah tradie who walked off the job and vowed never to work again.
Of the 15 Oz Lotto division one winning entries in FY20, eight landed in New South Wales, three in Victoria, two in South Australia, and one each in Queensland and Western Australia.
