Powerball has started 2024 with a bang, rocketing to $100 million for next week’s draw on Thursday 18 January 2024.

Next Thursday’s $100 million Powerball jackpot is the fifth biggest prize in Australian lottery history.

It comes after there were no division one winners during the past four Powerball draws.

While no one took home the multi-million-dollar jackpot in tonight’s Powerball draw, there were a total of 1,509,643 prizes worth more than $30.83 million won in divisions two to nine. Among those winners were two division two winners who each took home a $428,700.90 prize.

Up to half of Australia’s adults are expected to have an entry into next week’s $100 million Powerball draw with the hopes of becoming the nation’s first major lottery jackpot winner of 2024.

Last year, there were two $100 million Powerball draws that saw the creation of multi-millionaires across New South Wales and Victoria. In June 2023, a Bankstown dad pocketed $100 million and became Australia’s second-biggest individual lottery winner. Then, in August 2023, a 10-member Sydney syndicate and a Melton mum each scored $50 million.

The Lott spokesperson Matt Hart said all eyes would be on next week’s Powerball draw to see if one or more Aussies took home a life-changing prize.

“Next Thursday’s draw is only the eighth time in Powerball’s 28-year history that it has offered a $100 million prize,” he said.

“Could Powerball welcome its first division one winner for 2024 next week if someone scoops the entire pool and wins $100 million? Only time will tell!

“If just one player wins the entire jackpot, they’ll not only receive a massive boost to their bank account, but they’ll also share the crown of Australia’s second biggest individual lottery winner ever.

“We’re sure most Powerball players are already dreaming about what they’d do for the rest of 2024 and beyond if they took home a slice of $100 million. The holiday of a lifetime, immediate retirement, your perfect home and all your other dreams could be a reality.”

To ensure you’re in with a chance to win the $100 million jackpot, Mr Hart reminded players to purchase an entry either in-store, online at thelott.com or via the app or in-store before 7.30pm AEST on Thursday 18 January 2024.

He also encouraged players to register their entry to a player card or online account.

“If you win the jackpot, you’ll want to know immediately. By registering your entry, we’ll be able to reach out to you straight after the draw to confirm the life-changing news,” he said.

The winning numbers in Powerball draw 1443 on Thursday 11 January 2024 were 30, 2 5, 25, 16, 32 and 34. The all-important Powerball number was 7.

In 2023, 20 Powerball division one winning entries across Australia pocketed more than $552.15 million in prize money.

Of the 20 Powerball division one winning entries in 2023, eight landed in New South Wales, seven in Victoria, two each in South Australia and Western Australia, and one in Queensland.
