With up to one-in-six Australian adults expected to strive for Thursday’s $60 million Powerball jackpot, the secrets behind last year’s Powerball division one winning entries have been revealed.

It’s the second time this year the Powerball jackpot has soared to $60 million – the biggest prize offered by any Australian lottery game in 2022 to date.

The Lott spokesperson Matt Hart said Powerball could crown its second $60 million winner of the year if one person nabbed Thursday’s entire jackpot.

“About five weeks ago, a young Brisbane man had the best start to the year imaginable after taking home the entire $60 million prize,” he said.

“Since then, we haven’t seen another Powerball division one winner, sending the prize pool soaring to $60 million once again for this week’s draw.

“Winning this mammoth jackpot would surely breathe new life into all your dreams for the rest of 2022 and beyond.

“I’ll be standing by after Thursday night’s draw waiting to reach out to any registered division one winners, so make sure you register your entries to a player card or online account for the chance to receive that life-changing phone call.

“I broke the news to the last $60 million Powerball winner immediately after the draw; perhaps history will repeat itself this week.

“For those looking for Powerball entry inspiration, we can reveal the entry types that won big last year. But remember, regardless of which Powerball entry you grab, as long as you have one in your hand before 7.30pm AEST on Thursday night, you’re in with a chance to become an overnight multimillionaire.”

Powerball’s 2021 winning states In 2021, 14 Powerball division one winners across Australia pocketed more than $550 million in prize money. Of these wins, seven landed in New South Wales, four in Queensland, two in Victoria and one in Western Australia.

QuickPick or marked entries? Ten of last year’s Powerball division one winning entries were QuickPick entries, where the lottery terminal randomly generated the numbers on the ticket. The remaining four entries featured numbers selected by the winner.

The power of the PowerHit entry Half of last year’s Powerball division one wins were scored by a PowerHit entry; a ticket type unique to Powerball that guarantees the all-important Powerball number needed to win division one.

Instore or online? Almost two-thirds of last year’s Powerball division one winning entries were purchased from a licenced lottery outlet. The remainder was purchased online.

Sharing success with a syndicate Two of last year’s Powerball division one winning entries were syndicates, or group entries, where people worked together to purchase a bigger entry that gave them more chances of winning. When the syndicate wins, the prize is shared among all syndicate members. Last year, a Townsville syndicate scored a $60 million Powerball prize in July, while a 55-strong group from Western Australia shared an $80 million jackpot in December.

Powerball’s hot and cold numbers To win Powerball’s division one prize, you need to have all seven winning numbers (drawn from the main barrel of 35 numbers) plus the Powerball (drawn from the Powerball barrel of 20 numbers) in a single game panel.

From the main barrel, the most frequently drawn winning numbers are 17, 9, 11 and 25. The least frequently drawn winning numbers are 6, 31, 15 and 33.

For the separate Powerball barrel, the most frequently drawn Powerball number is 19, while the least frequently drawn Powerball number is 18.

The $60 million Powerball draw, draw 1343, is on 10 February 2022.
