Records are being shattered this week with $150 million up for grabs across two draws, making it the largest jackpot week in Australian lottery history.
Following eight weeks of jackpotting, tomorrow’s Oz Lotto draw is offering a gigantic $70 million, while Thursday’s Powerball draw has a mammoth $80 million up for grabs.
This week’s $80 million Powerball jackpot is the equal largest division one prize the game has offered in its 22-year history. It last offered this massive prize almost a decade ago in 2009.
Oz Lotto’s $70 million division one prize pool is the largest jackpot for the game in five years. Oz Lotto also holds the record for the largest ever single jackpot – a $100 million prize in 2012 that was won by four entries.
The Lott spokesperson Matt Hart said 2018 would be remembered as the year of big Australian lottery jackpots, with up to one-in-four Australian adults expected to have an entry in at least one of this week’s jackpot draws.
“It’s one thing to have just one huge multi-million-dollar jackpot in a week, but to have two is highly exceptional,” he said.
“With a record-breaking $150 million up for grabs across the two draws, we anticipate a surge of activity in our lottery outlets and online at thelott.com.
“My best advice is to get in early to make sure you get your entry, and make sure you register that entry so we can give you that life-changing news straight after the draw.
“Imagine how your life could change with a multi-million dollar division one prize.
“Previous Oz Lotto and Powerball division one winners have told us that when they saw their bank balances balloon with truckloads of cash, they felt the world was suddenly their oyster and they could now play by their own rules.”
Mr Hart said another Australian lottery record could be created this week if one entry claimed the entire $80 million division one prize pool up for grabs in Thursday’s Powerball draw.
“Currently, the biggest Australian lottery windfall won by a single entry is a $70 million Powerball prize, which was won by a Hervey Bay couple in 2016.
“If there is only one Powerball division one winner this Thursday night, we will have a new record for the biggest prize a single entry has won to add to the record-breaking week.”
The $70 million Oz Lotto draw, draw 1277, will take place on Tuesday 7 August 2018.
Last financial year, 18 Oz Lotto division one winning entries across the Lott’s jurisdictions won more than $237 million.
The $80 million Powerball draw, draw 1160, will take place on Thursday 9 August 2018.
Last financial year, 18 Powerball division one winning entries across the Lott’s jurisdictions won more than $249 million.
The Lott’s division one winning tally across all Australian lottery games has now reached 240 so far this calendar year.
