A pair of self-proclaimed New Town “battlers” are planning to retire from work and just enjoy life after becoming overnight millionaires thanks to a TattsLotto division one win.

The Tasmanians held one of the six division one winning entries nationally in TattsLotto draw 4173 on Saturday 17 July 2021. Each division one winning entry scored $999,822.93.

In addition to winning division one, the duo’s marked System 8 entry also scored division three 12 times and division four 15 times, bolstering their total prize to $1,012,790.28.

When an official from The Lott called the pair, one of the winners relayed how they discovered they’d become overnight millionaires.

“I was about to start work on Sunday, and I was just sitting in the car when I decided to quickly check our lottery tickets,” the winning woman clarified.

“It was so surreal ticking off each number on the ticket. I couldn’t believe it!

“I was screaming on the inside, but shaking on the outside!

“I am over the moon!

“I called my husband straight away to tell him. He was still in bed, so I had to wake him up. I said, ‘sit down, I’ve got something to tell you’.

“He was absolutely amazed! He said he couldn’t stop pacing around the house after that. He didn’t know what was going on.

“We never thought something like this would happen to us.

“When I walked into my work, I must have looked flushed, because my colleague asked me if I was okay. But really, I was better than okay!

“When I went home that night, my husband and I had a few drinks. We just kept looking at each other and saying, ‘we’re millionaires, what the hell!’.

“It’s incredible. Thank you so much.”

When asked how they intended to enjoy their million-dollar windfall, the delighted duo said they were busy devising plans.

“We’ll pay off the mortgage, and there are some renovations we’ve been wanting to do for a long time. We could never justify the cost, but now we can do it without thinking about it,” the winning lady shared.

“The rest we’ll use towards our retirement.

“We’ve battled all of our lives. We’re hard workers, so this will take the pressure off and allow us to just enjoy our lives.”

Their winning marked System 8 entry was purchased at New Town Plaza Newsagency, Shop 9A Newtown Plaza, 1 Risdon Road, New Town.
