A group of six Maitland’s teachers are ending the year on an adrenaline high after chalking up a $200,000 Lucky Lotteries prize in today’s draw.

The Hunter region residents held the 1st Prize winning entry in Lucky Lotteries Mega Jackpot draw 1742, drawn Friday 12 December 2025.

When an official from The Lott called with the winning news, the private syndicate leader was in the staff room and couldn’t help but let out screams of joy.

“Oh my god! You’re joking?!” he gasped.

“That’s a syndicate with my work friends. It’s six of us and we’re all teachers.

“That’s so good.

“What a surprise for us as we’re wrapping up the final term.”

With each syndicate member set to enjoy $33,000 before the New Year, the stunned syndicate leader shared he couldn’t wait to spread the good news with his colleagues.

“Well, I have a spare period now, so I’m going to go around and tell everyone,” he said.

“I’m building a house at the moment, and my share will go a long way towards tidying up renovations.

“It’s a breath of fresh air for all of us."

Their winning entry of four random numbers was purchased via The Lott app – the official home of Australia’s lotteries.

The Lucky Lotteries Mega Jackpot prize is now $18.64 million for draw 1743, while the Lucky Lotteries Super Jackpot prize is now $2.06 million for draw 11052.

In FY25, 182 Lucky Lotteries 1st Prize and Jackpot Prize winning entries across Australia won more than $20.5 million.

Lucky Lotteries Super Jackpot and Lucky Lotteries Mega Jackpot are raffle-style games, which means there is a set number of tickets in each draw. As each ticket number is unique there is no sharing of prizes.

Each game has two draws – one that determines the winning numbers and one that determines the jackpot number. If the jackpot number matches one of the winning numbers, then the Jackpot Prize is won. If the jackpot number does not match one of the winning numbers, the Jackpot Prize will climb for the next draw.
