A man from South Adelaide admitted he almost jumped over the counter and hugged a staff member after being told he won a Keno Spot 8 prize of $50,000.

The ecstatic winner won the Keno Spot 8 prize in draw 2400403 on Tuesday 14 August 2018.

It’s the second Keno Spot 8 prize to land in Adelaide in two days.

Speaking to an SA Lotteries official this afternoon to confirm his win, the South Adelaide man recounted the moment he discovered his good fortune – hours after the draw.

“I was at work and I stopped for lunch at the Albion Hotel and thought I’d play some Keno to help make the day a bit more exciting, not so boring,” he explained.

“This time I decided to do things a little differently and so I picked my numbers, where I usually just play a QuickPick.

“Later that day I decided to drop into my local on the way home from work and check my ticket.

“When I scanned my ticket the guy at the counter said I had won. I just looked at him and said ‘what do you mean?’.

“But as I asked him, I looked at the screen directly behind him and it said ‘Spot 8 won at Albion Hotel’.

“I just about jumped over the counter and hugged him! I couldn’t believe that I had won. I am walking on cloud nine!

“I was so excited that I drove straight to my wife’s work and said to her ‘brace yourself, I have something to tell you!’. It took her ages to actually believe me.

“It’s crazy because it was so random – everything I did was different to what I usually do. I usually play a Spot 9, get a QuickPick and go to my local to play, but this time I did everything differently!

“It feels as though it was meant to be.

“I just keep thinking I am going to wake up in a minute and it’s all going to be a dream.”

When asked how he planned to spend his win, the happy man admitted he was heading straight to the travel agent to plan a holiday.

“We are going to pay some bills and go on a cruise overseas. I am not exactly sure where, but that is what we want to do.”

The winning entry was purchased at Albion Hotel, 423 Churchill Road, Kilburn.

Albion Hotel gaming manager Christie Fitzgerald said the hotel was thrilled to have sold a winning entry.

“We are over the moon,” she said.

“We were hoping to congratulate the winner, because we are so happy for him!

“Our customers noticed that we had a win and it’s generated a lot of excitement and buzz here.

“Hopefully we have some more wins for our customers soon.”

Another Spot 8 prize was won at Munno Para Newsagency, Shops 17-19 Munno Para Shopping Centre, Main North Road, Smithfield.

The anonymous winner won the Spot 8 Prize of $50,000 in draw 2400743 drawn on 15 August 2018.

Last financial year, there were 19 Keno Spot 8, 9 and 10 winners across South Australia who landed more than $4.52 million. Spot 10 was won twice during this time – a prize of more than $2.017 million in December 2017 and a prize of more than $1.474 million in April 2018.

Keno is a game whereby 20 numbers are randomly generated from a possible 80. To win a Keno Spot 9 prize, a player must match all nine of the numbers selected on their ticket against the 20 numbers drawn.
