A Sunbury man is still coming to terms with the fact he is now Set for Life after scoring the First Prize of $20,000 a month for 20 years in Saturday night’s Set for Life draw.

The disbelieving winner scored the First Prize of $20,000 a month for 20 years in Set for Life draw 1605, drawn Saturday 28 December 2019.

When speaking with a Tatts official this morning to confirm the win, the Sunbury local confessed he initially thought the phone call was a practical joke.

“You’re kidding me! Holy sh*t! This definitely isn’t a joke, right?” he said disbelievingly.

“I didn’t expect this phone call at all.

“We are away in our caravan at the moment and just 10 minutes ago I was watching the television and saw an ad for a lottery draw.

“I said to my wife ‘God, it would be great to win one of those’. I can’t believe you’ve just called me to say I actually have won!

“I don’t think my wife will believe me. She’ll think I’m stirring her up.

“Are you sure this isn’t a joke?

“I play the same tickets every week and have only ever won small prizes.

“I still can’t believe you are telling me the truth.”

When asked how he was going to enjoy his incredible prize the stoked bloke was initially stumped, but then confessed he would be spending more time in his caravan exploring Australia.

“I have no idea!” he exclaimed.

“I’m pretty much going to retire straight away. The win will come in very handy for that!

“We will probably be spending a lot more time in our caravan that’s for sure.

“Bloody oath! I can’t wait to see the money in my bank account every month.”

The happy winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased his entry at Nextra Sunbury, 14 Brook Street, Sunbury.

Nextra Sunbury owner Jenny Carland said she was thrilled her outlet had sold another major prize.

“Our newsagency has been owned and operated by my family since 1932 and we’ve been operating Tatts since it began,” she explained.

“We have had 28 division one winners, but this is our first Set for Life winner and our biggest winner ever!

“On two separate occasions we have sold multiple division one prizes within two weeks of each other, so we are hope this happens again for one of our customers.

“We love the fact we have sold a First Prize in Set for Life because we love the concept of someone winning $20,000 a month for the next 20 years!

“Congratulations to our winner! We are so happy we helped make their winning dream come true!

“We hope we can sell another First Prize again really soon!”

The winning numbers in Set for Life draw 1605 were 5, 11, 36, 10, 33, 15, 27 and 3, with the bonus numbers 17 and 26.

The Victorian winner is the 54th Set for Life First Prize winner nationally since the game began.

In the 12 months to 30 June 2019, there were 10 Set for Life First Prize winners across Australia who will receive $48 million during the next 20 years. As at 30 June 2019, $23.48 million in monthly payments of $20,000 had been paid to the 49 Set for Life First Prize winners across Australia.
