A Sunshine Coast couple now believe Friday the thirteenth is their lucky day after winning the First prize in Set for Life last Friday and pocketing $20,000 a month for the next 20 years.
The recently retired couple’s entry won the First Prize in Set for Life draw 1072 drawn on Friday 13 July 2018.
They are the 40th Set for Life First Prize winner nationally since the game began almost three years ago. They are also the 12th First Prize winner nationally so far this calendar year.
A Golden Casket official broke the news of the win to the couple this morning. The happy woman confessed she was in a state of shock.
“Ah no, I don’t believe it,” she exclaimed.
“Oh my goodness, oh my goodness, I don’t believe it. Twenty years - phenomenal!
“Wow, oh my gosh! This is amazing, it is outrageous actually – I am going to be in shock for a very long time.
“When you first called, my husband and I thought we had won something reasonable, but it never occurred to us that it was the big prize, so thank you so much.
“Turns out Friday the thirteenth isn’t so bad after all! Friday the thirteenth will be party time from now on.”
The winning woman admitted their Set for Life prize had come at the perfect time.
“I was just trying to figure out my super and now I don’t have to,” she said.
“We are retired, but we were at a crossroad trying to figure out what to do. We have been hunting for jobs and now we can finally give up.
“We were thinking we would also have to sell our house, or at least downsize. We were concerned for a while, but this will certainly make things easier.”
The winning couple also plan to spoil their family and enjoy their retirement.
“The first thing we will do is help out the family, then we will travel, then renovate the house. After that, god knows what we will do,” she said.
“We would love to travel around Australia and go overseas, because we have never been able to do that. We can finally do all those things we have always wanted to do.”
The happy couple, who wish to remain anonymous, purchased their winning 3 SET QuickPick entry at Nextra Chancellor Park, Shop 7, Chancellor Park Marketplace, University Way, Sippy Downs.
Nextra Chancellor Park Assistant Manager Karen Daymond said the outlet was ecstatic to have sold the 40th Set for Life First Prize winning entry.
“It is great to know we have changed someone’s life, we are so happy for them,” she said.
“We have sold two division one tickets before, so we were ready to sell another big prize.
“We have been telling all of our customers, printed some signs and put some balloons up.
“We are glad it is a local customer and will definitely be celebrating.”
Across Australia, the Queensland winner held the only entry that won the First Prize in Set for Life draw 1072 on Friday 13 July 2018, which offers a guaranteed First Prize of $20,000 a month for 20 years for up to four winners in each draw.
