A Surry Hills man says he has a “happy headache” after discovering he became a millionaire this week from winning division one in Wednesday Lotto.

The Sydney player held the only division one winning entry nationally in Monday & Wednesday Lotto draw 3975, drawn Wednesday 20 May 2020, and takes home a division one prize of $1 million.

This afternoon, an official from the Lott finally reached the winner, who admitted he’d been ignoring calls yesterday, thinking they were from salespeople.

“My phone was playing up yesterday, but I saw I had a few missed calls,” he explained.

“I didn’t know the number, so I just thought it was someone trying to sell me something.

“Then I checked my emails and saw that it said I’d won. I checked the ticket so many times and I just kept thinking ‘is this real? No way!’.

“I didn’t tell my missus because I wanted to have it confirmed first. I had to have a few beers last night to celebrate though!

“Honestly I have been sweating on this since I saw the email yesterday afternoon.

“I just feel like this is all a dream! It’s very exciting.

“It’s given me a happy headache!

“I can’t wait to tell my wife tonight. We will have to do something to celebrate.”

When asked how he might enjoy his million-dollar prize, the thrilled winner admitted he’d been up all night thinking about it.

“All I’ve been doing is thinking about what to do with it. I am a bit overwhelmed about it all,” he laughed.

“We will definitely pay off our mortgage and keep some for the kids.

“We’ve been wanting to get a holiday home as well, and the rest we will keep for our retirement.”

The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased his winning marked System 7 ticket at Devonshire Street Newsagency, 70 Devonshire Street, Surry Hills.

Devonshire Street Newsagency manager Vanessa Lee said she couldn’t be happier for the winning customer.

“We are over the moon!” she said.

“We have been here for 26 years and this is the biggest prize we have sold!

“As you can imagine, we are very excited.

“It’s great for the shop and the customer!

“We wish them the very best, especially in times like this. We really couldn’t be happier for him.

“We can’t wait to sell more major prize winning tickets.”
