A Taree man’s trip to the bathroom was completely turned on its head in the best way possible after checking his tickets and realising he had scored more than $4.6 million in the recent Powerball draw.
The New South Wales resident scored the only division one winning entry nationally in Powerball draw 1476 drawn Thursday 29 August and pocketed $4,681,528.85.
After missing multiple winning phone calls from The Lott, the winning man was completely oblivious to his win before finally checking his ticket over the weekend.
“I was actually sitting on the toilet when I checked my ticket!” he laughed.
“What a way to realise I’m a multi-millionaire now.
“I just went, ‘Holy s***! This can’t be right!’.
“I showed my wife and we started googling the numbers to see if it was really true.
“It’s come at the most amazing time.”
With more than $4.6 million about to boost his bank account this coming month, the generous man already knew what he’d like to do.
“I’ve got a good mate that I’m going to help out. We’ve both been through some really tough times together,” he revealed.
“I’ll be seeing him later in the week so I can’t wait to tell him.
“Thank you so much. This is life-changing.”
The 8-game QuickPick entry was purchased via The Lott app – the official home of Australia’s lotteries.
The winning numbers in Powerball draw 1476 on Thursday 29 August 2024 were 12, 21, 6, 15, 9, 34 and 20. The all-important Powerball number was 15.
Across Australia, there was one division one winning entry in Powerball draw 1476 – one in New South Wales.
The Lott’s division one winning tally has now reached 298 so far in FY24, including 91 won by NSW Lotteries customers.
In FY24, 20 Powerball division one winning entries across Australia pocketed more than $758 million in prize money.
During this time, Powerball offered a $200 million jackpot, the biggest in Australian history, and an Adelaide man who won $150 million became the nation’s biggest individual lottery winner.
Of the 20 Powerball division one winning entries in FY24, eight landed in New South Wales, six in Victoria, three in Queensland and one each in South Australia and Western Australia.
