Lottery players across the country are counting down the seconds, minutes and hours until tonight’s massive $100 million Powerball jackpot, when their lives could change forever if they win division one.

Tonight’s $100 million Powerball jackpot is the second largest prize ever offered by an Australian lottery game and only the third time it’s been offered in the game’s 23-year history.

It comes after no players held a division one winning entry in last week’s Powerball draw, prompting the game to jackpot for the seventh consecutive week.

The Lott spokesperson Ally Ramsamy said players had only hours to secure their chance to win a mind-blowing $100 million.

“The draw closes at 7:30pm AEST this evening so players have only a few precious hours to get an entry into tonight’s draw for the chance to become a multi-millionaire,” she said.

“Within a matter of hours, we could be crowning 2019’s ninth Powerball division one winner.

“Time is ticking, this isn’t a draw you want to miss! Don’t leave it until the last minute.

“In recent big jackpot draws we have seen an increase in Powerball players purchasing their tickets on the day of the draw.

“The busiest times for people buying their tickets online or instore are around 1pm, 5pm and in the 60 minutes leading up to the draw close.

“In fact, for last week’s big Powerball draw the peak of sales on the day was at 4:52pm when 3646 tickets were sold instore and online in 60 seconds.

“It’s no coincidence this is when many Aussies are on their work lunch break or heading home from work dreaming about what their lives would look like if they became an overnight multi-millionaire.

“One thing is for sure, if they scored division one, they might never have to go to work again.”

Ms Ramsamy said players should also register their entries to a player card so they can be immediately contacted should they win division one.

“Make sure you charge your phone, turn your ringer up loud and keep it close by, because we’re sure this is a phone call you’re going to want to answer,” she said.

“In January, we called a Sydney mum straight after the draw to tell her she’d won $107 million and she answered the phone immediately, so she was able to begin living her life as a multi-millionaire that very night!”

Powerball draw 1217 closes at 7:30pm AEST on Thursday 12 September 2019.

Tickets can be purchased at any licensed lottery outlet, online from thelott.com or via the Lott mobile app.

The Lott’s division one winning tally across all Australian lottery games has now reached 251 so far this calendar year.

In the 12 months to 30 June 2019, 10 Powerball division one winners across Australia pocketed more than $398.5 million in prize money.

During this time, the biggest individual Powerball prize was $107,575,649.08, which was won by a Sydney healthcare worker on 17 January 2019. Her windfall set a new record for Australia’s biggest individual lottery winner.

Victoria and New South Wales each enjoyed three division one wins, while Queensland, South Australia and Tasmania each scored one.
