A Wheeler Heights man who received an Instant Scratch-Its ticket worth $100,000 for his birthday plans to share half of his winnings with the gift giver.
The top prize-winning $5 Treasures of Aztec ticket was purchased at Wheeler Heights Newsagency, Shop 2/178 South Creek Road, Cromer.
The gleeful Sydney resident explained he received the winning Instant Scratch-Its ticket from a close friend while out celebrating his birthday.
“It’s still not sinking in. I honestly can’t believe it,” he told an official from The Lott while claiming his prize.
“I celebrated my 70th birthday with a group of friends at Livoti’s in Dee Why the other day, and I received this Instant Scratch-Its ticket from one of my closest friends.
“I said to him, ‘If I win big on this, I’ll share half of the winnings with you’. The next thing we knew, I won the top prize worth $100,000! We were in absolute shock, complete disbelief!
“We’re going to split it straight down in the middle. I’ll take $50,000 and so will he.
“We already planned to go out for dinner again with the same group of friends and shout everyone free food and drinks – it’s on us!
“I’ll probably remember this birthday for the rest of my life!”
When asked how he planned to enjoy his share of the windfall, he revealed he already had a couple of ideas in mind.
“I’m not entirely sure what I’ll spend it on, but I have three options. I’ll either put it towards house renovations, a new car, or some holidays!” he shared.
“This is pretty awesome!”
