Tonight’s $110 million Powerball jackpot has been won by three division one winning entries - one each from South Australia, Victoria and New South Wales - with each taking home a division one prize of $36,666,666.67.
The three division one winners were the only division one winners nationally in Powerball draw 1209 drawn Thursday 18 July 2019.
Sleepless night for young Adelaide man
A young man from Adelaide is in for a sleepless night tonight after receiving a phone call this evening just before nine o’clock, with news that he is now a multi-millionaire after scoring a division one prize in tonight’s Powerball draw.
As well as winning the coveted division one prize of $36,666,666.67 the thrilled winner also scored division two 19 times, bolstering his total prize to $37,602,912.27.
“Wow,” he eventually said after a moment of stunned silence.
“Thank you so much! That is incredible. I can’t believe that. I am shaking so much.
“This is going to change so many lives!”
The winner finally answered his phone on the second call, but admitted he wasn’t expecting the life-changing news.
“I was definitely not expecting this phone call!” he laughed in shock.
“Just like everyone who buys a ticket you never think it’s going to actually happen to you.
“My heart is going a million miles an hour. That’s unbelievable! Wow! Thank you!”
When asked how he planned to enjoy his Powerball windfall, he said sharing with family and charities was the priority.
“I would love to take my family on a holiday!” he said.
“I’m not sure where exactly I’ll be going but I think a round-the-world trip might be on the cards. In fact, we could even do it first class!
“I’ll also pay off my family’s mortgages and donate heaps to charity.”
As for whether the winner would be going to work tomorrow, he joked he was contemplating drafting his resignation letter immediately.
“I might quit my job,” he laughed.
“I don’t know, I’m still in shock! I just can’t wait to get off the phone so I can call my family and tell them the news. I don’t know if they’ll even believe me!”
The thrilled winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased his QuickPick Powerhit entry online at thelott.com – Australia’s official lotteries.
Check your tickets Victoria & New South Wales
Lottery officials are yet to make contact with the two other division one winners from tonight’s draw and are urging all players in New South Wales and Victoria to check their tickets.
Spokesperson for the Lott Bronwyn Spencer said two Australians could be waking up tomorrow over $36 million richer and not know it yet.
“Imagine going to bed a multi-millionaire and not knowing it? That is the reality for two Australian lottery players tonight after they scored division one in tonight’s Powerball draw!” she exclaimed.
“The division one winning entry from Victoria is unregistered, which means we don’t have any way of contacting the winner to break the life-changing news and have to wait for them to come forward to claim their prize.
“While the New South Wales entry was purchased online, unfortunately, we don’t have their complete contact details so we are unable to make a mind-blowing phone call to them this evening.
“That is why we are encouraging everyone in New South Wales and Victoria to check their entries because they may be the multi-millionaires we are searching for!
“If anyone does discover they are holding a winning entry we encourage them to hold on tight to that ticket and call us on 131 868 to begin the process of claiming their prize!”
In addition to the three division one winners, a total of 3,519,175 prizes worth more than $60.4 million were won in divisions two to nine.
The winning numbers in Powerball draw 1209 drawn on Thursday 18 July 2019 were 6, 13, 1, 11, 23, 27 and 16, while the all-important Powerball is 11.
The Lott’s division one winning tally has now reached 196 so far this calendar year.
