Aussies keen to finish the financial year as a newly-minted multi-millionaire are eyeing this Thursday’s $60 million Powerball draw.

This week’s Powerball draw, draw 1413 on Thursday 15 June 2023, offers the biggest jackpot of any Australian lottery game so far this year.

The jackpot has surged to $60 million as there haven’t been any division one winners during the past four Powerball draws.

Up to one in six Australian adults are expected to have an entry into this week’s draw.

If just one person snared division one in Thursday’s draw, The Lott spokesperson Matt Hart said they would become the year’s biggest lottery winner to date.

“Australia’s biggest lottery winners of 2023 so far are a woman from Echuca in Victoria and a man from Swan Valley – they both won $40 million each in separate Powerball draws earlier this year,” he said.

“We’ve had a steady procession of Powerball division one winners so far this year, which means we haven’t seen the Powerball jackpot climb very high… until now.

“Any division one winners in this week’s Powerball draw would be paid their prize on 30 June – surely one way to end the financial year on a high!

Powerball winning states So far in 2023, there have been eight division one winning entries that collectively have taken home more than $154 million in prize money.

Three of these wins have landed in New South Wales, two in South Australia and one each in Queensland, Victoria and Western Australia.

Winning entry types While every entry offered the chance to pocket Thursday’s Powerball prize, Mr Hart said some winning trends were emerging.

“Interestingly, five of the eight Powerball division one winning entries of 2023 to date have been marked entries – where people have selected the numbers on their ticket. This is the complete opposite of previous years when QuickPicks – where the lottery terminal randomly generates the numbers on the ticket – have scored the most division one wins,” he said.

“Half of 2023’s Powerball division one winning entries to date have been PowerHit entries – an entry unique to Powerball that guarantees the all-important Powerball number you need to win division one.”

“Hot” and “Cold” numbers The most frequently drawn winning numbers from the main barrel are 17, 7, 9, 2 and 28, while the least frequently drawn are 31, 33, 34, 15 and 1.

The most frequently drawn Powerball numbers are 3 and 19, while the least frequently drawn Powerball numbers are 14 and 16.

“My best advice for anyone wanting the chance to win Powerball this week is to ensure you have an entry in your hands before the draw’s close at 7.30pm AEST on Thursday night,” Mr Hart said.

“As this is the biggest offer of any Australian lottery game at the moment, we’re expecting it to be busy in-store and online leading up to Thursday night.

“Make sure you register your entry to a player card or online account so we can call you with the life-changing news straight after the draw should you win division one!”

Tickets can be purchased at any licenced lottery outlet, online from thelott.com or via The Lott mobile app.
