A Tullamarine man who believed he’d scored $1 million in last night’s Oz Lotto draw got the surprise of his life this morning when he discovered he’d actually won a $20 million prize.
The Victorian player held the only division one winning entry nationally in Oz Lotto draw 1471 on Tuesday 26 April 2022. He takes home a division one prize of $20,034,283.20.
When an official from The Lott reached out to the winner this morning, he joked that winning division one was the secret to a good night’s sleep.
“I’m still in bed right now, but I checked my Oz Lotto ticket last night while getting dinner ready, so I think I know why you’re calling,” he explained.
“I counted all the numbers and realised I’d won. I thought, ‘Is this true!? No way!’.
“But I thought I’d won one million dollars, not twenty million dollars! I assumed multiple people won the prize, not just me!
“I never thought I’d become an overnight multi-millionaire. It’s so much money! This is very overwhelming.
“I know this is true, but it doesn’t feel like it. It feels like a dream!
“I haven’t celebrated yet. Once I get off the phone with you, I will go back to bed and have a nice sleep in. But then I’ll call my family and share the news with them, and I’m sure they’ll want to do something.
“I’m still renting, so I’ll use the prize to buy myself a house. I also want to help my family and travel around the country.
“God bless you, dear! This is amazing. Now I can live my life to the fullest.”
The winning System 8 entry was purchased at Tullamarine Authorised Newsagency, 191 Melrose Drive, Tullamarine.
Tullamarine Authorised Newsagency owner Sasha Kulincevic said his entire team was celebrating the division one win.
“We were thrilled when we found out,” he said.
“I hope the winner is overjoyed by the news! Hopefully, he will enjoy his prize.
“We’ve been sharing the news with all our customers, and they’re all excited and hoping they’re next.
“We’ve sold a few major prizes in the past, but not for a bit, so we’ve been waiting for another one. Hopefully this is the start of a winning streak.”
The winning numbers in Oz Lotto draw 1471 on Tuesday 26 April 2022 were 4, 22, 30, 17, 5, 45, 34, while the supplementary numbers were 31 and 44.
Across Australia, there was one division one winning entry in Oz Lotto draw 1471 – one from Victoria.
The Lott’s division one winning tally has now reached 376 so far this financial year, including 138 won by Tatts customers.
