A young Melbourne man in his 20s has been revealed as one of the two division one winners from last night’s $100 million Powerball draw.

His online entry was one of the two division one winning entries nationally in Powerball draw 1161 on Thursday 16 August 2018 – one each from Victoria and New South Wales. Each division one winning entry takes home $50 million.

When speaking to officials late this morning to confirm his mammoth prize, the over-the-moon winner confessed he knew he had become a multi-millionaire when he checked his entry last night before bed.

“I’m trying to remain as calm as possible!” he laughed.

“I only bought this entry last night on the OzLotteries app before the draw closed.

“I’m going to do the right thing. This win is life changing!

“I’m going to look after my whole family – invest money in property and shares. It will make a massive difference to a lot of people.”

The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased his entry online via OzLotteries.com – one of the Lott’s authorised resellers. Jumbo Interactive operates OzLotteries.com website and OzLotteries App selling official lottery tickets as an authorised reseller of Tabcorp. Mystery Southern Sydney winner yet to claim $50 million!

NOTE: The name of the outlet where the winning Sydney entry was sold will only be released after 7am Saturday (unless the winner comes forward beforehand).

The other $50 million division one prize from last night’s draw, won from an entry purchased in Sydney’s Canterbury-Bankstown region, has yet to be claimed.

As the southern Sydney entry was not registered to a Players Club card, NSW Lotteries officials have no way to contact the ticketholder and break that mind-blowing news.

This means the winner may have yet to discover their new multi-million-dollar status and could be walking around with a ticket worth $50 million in their pocket, wallet or handbag.

Last night’s win is the latest in a string of wins for the southern Sydney region. So far this year, the region has enjoyed 14 major lottery prizes worth more than $72.86 million.

In addition to last night’s $50 million Powerball prize, southern Sydney has witnessed:

  • seven Saturday Lotto and Monday & Wednesday Lotto division one prizes worth more than $8.7 million
  • two Set for Life first prize winners, with each receiving $20,000 a month for 20 years
  • four Lucky Lotteries prizes, including a $3.8 million jackpot.

The Lott spokesperson Matt Hart said he encouraged everyone who purchased an entry from a licensed lottery outlet in the Canterbury-Bankstown region to check their tickets as they could be one of Australia’s newest multi-millionaires.

“While we haven’t been able to confirm the win with our Sydney winner, we can guarantee that when they discover the news, their life is set to change when each of their bank accounts balloons by a whopping $50 million,” he said.

“Make sure you check your entry as soon as possible because you may not have to go to work on Monday. Instead, you could start planning how you can play by your own rules and begin your life as a multi-millionaire.”

“Players can check their entry at any outlet, online at thelott.com or on the Lott app.

“If you check your ticket and discover you are holding the winning ticket, we recommend you keep it safe and contact 131 868 to start the process of claiming your prize!”

The wins come as up to one-in-three Australian adults had an entry in Thursday’s record-breaking draw.

So far in 2018, there have been 13 Powerball division one winning entries worth $274 million across Australia.

The two new division one winners join an exclusive club of just 15 Australians who have won $50 million or more in an official Australian lottery draw.

Thursday’s draw also saw more than 3.79 million prizes won across divisions two to nine worth more than $66.6 million. Among these winners were 15 division two winners who each take home a prize of $122,896.20.

The numbers drawn Powerball draw 1161 on Thursday 16 August 2018 were 33, 3, 32, 13, 27, 35 and 31. The all-important Powerball number was 3.

Powerball draw 1162 will offer $3 million next Thursday 23 August 2018.

The Lott’s division one winning tally has now reached 251 so far this calendar year.

Tickets can be purchased at any licensed lottery outlet, online from thelott.com or via the Lott mobile app.
