A retired Townsville couple are heading into the weekend rejoicing after scratching one of the top prize of $10,000 on an Instant Scratch-Its ticket.
The winning $1 Slosh Dosh Instant Scratch-Its ticket was purchased at Nextra Willows News, Shop 177, Willows Shopping Centre, Thuringowa Central.
Confirming the news with an official from the Lott this morning, the North Queensland pair recalled the winning moment.
“We scratched the ticket last week,” the winning man explained.
“We buy a few $1 tickets every week.
“We were absolutely shocked when we saw we had won!
“We had to keep checking the ticket, counting the symbols over and over again.
“It was very exciting! Something we never expected.”
When asked how they planned to enjoy their windfall, the couple said they were still too shocked to decide.
“We’re still thinking about that,” they laughed.
“The news is still sinking in!
“But we know we will really enjoy it.”
Nextra Willows News manager Roslyn Brown said she hoped this was the beginning of a winning streak for the outlet.
“Winning this prize was such a lovely surprise for our regular customers,” she said.
“We hope we see plenty more customers score life-changing prizes.
“Congratulations to them! We know they’ll enjoy it.”
In 2019, there were 114 Instant Scratch-Its top prize winners across the Lott’s jurisdictions who collectively took home more than $9.61 million in top prizes.
During this same time, Instant Scratch-Its players enjoyed more than 27.1 million wins across all prize tiers worth more than $208.8 million. This equates to more than half a million dollars won on Instant Scratch-Its every day.
