A Whyalla woman was overwhelmed to discover she had to add another zero to what she thought was her $10,000 Instant Scratch-Its prize as she had, in fact, scratched a top prize of $100,000.

The top prize winning $5 Crosswords Instant Scratch-Its ticket was purchased at Westland Newsagency, Shop 17, Westland Shopping Centre, Whyalla.

Confirming her exciting win with an official from the Lott this morning, the woman explained the revelation was still sinking in.

“I’m over the moon!” she exclaimed.

“We thought we had won $10,000 and we were so excited about that!

“It wasn’t until we went in today and checked the ticket that we realised it was $100,000!

“There’s was another letter on there that we had initially missed.

“When they told me it was $100,000, I started crying and shaking.

“It was such a shock. It’s lovely. Just lovely.

“It was the best surprise.

“I still can’t get my head around it. I couldn’t be happier!”

When asked how she planned to enjoy her instant windfall, the woman said there was plenty she’d be able to do with her prize.

“I’ll have to really think about it now,” she said.

“We definitely need a few new things around the house, and we will put some away for a rainy day.

“And when we’re allowed out and about again we’d love to go on a holiday.

“It will be lovely!”

Westland Newsagency team member Michelle Brine said it was great to see another local customer score a major prize.

“We’ve sold quite a few top prize winning scratchies over the years,” she said.

“It’s always so exciting and even better when it’s gone to a local.

“We’re so happy for our latest winner. Congratulations to them!”

In 2019, there were 199 Instant Scratch-Its top prize winners across the Lott’s jurisdictions who collectively took home more than $9.7 million in top prizes.

During this same time, Instant Scratch-Its players enjoyed more than 27.1 million wins across all prize tiers worth more than $208.8 million. This equates to more than half a million dollars won on Instant Scratch-Its every day.
