Powerball is standing by ready to crown its third division one winner for 2021 should one or more Aussies have the winning combination of numbers needed to win tomorrow night’s $50 million jackpot.
The $50 million prize is the biggest offer by any Australian lottery game in five months.
So far this year, Powerball has only witnessed two division one winners – one from Queensland and another from New South Wales who each scored a $10 million prize from the same draw in January.
Last year, Powerball welcomed 14 Powerball division one winners across Australia who collectively scored more than $470.1 million in prize money.
An analysis of 2020’s division one winning Powerball entries shows only three were marked entries, where the player selected the numbers on their ticket, while the rest were QuickPick entries, where the lottery terminal randomly chose the numbers.
Two of last year’s 14 Powerball winners also had PowerHit entries, a type of entry unique to Powerball that guarantees the all-important Powerball number.
The Lott spokesperson Matt Hart said up to one-in-six Australian adults were expected to have an entry in Thursday’s $50 million Powerball draw.
“In recent months, we’ve had a regular succession of Powerball division one winners, which means the jackpot prize hasn’t been able to climb too high,” he said.
“However, that trend has changed in recent weeks, and now the Powerball prize has soared to $50 million – the biggest prize offered by any Australian lottery game since September last year.
“I’ll be standing by ready to reach out to any registered division one winner tomorrow night. So if you hear your phone ringing late, make sure you pick it up as it could be me!
“Imagine how your plans for the rest of 2021 and the rest of your life could change if you took home a life-changing $50 million! A multi-million-dollar prize like this is bound to put a spring in the step of any division one winner.”
Mr Hart said he had two tips for anyone keen for the chance to become the next Powerball multi-millionaire.
“Regardless of what entry type you choose, as long as you have an entry in your hand before the draw’s close, you’re in with a chance to win,” he said.
“Secondly, make sure you register your entry to a player card or online account. If your numbers are drawn, you’ll want to know you’re a multi-millionaire as soon as possible. By registering your entry, your prize is secure and we can contact you with the winning news shortly after the draw.”
Powerball draw 1292 closes on Thursday 18 February 2021 at 7:30pm AEST.
