With the countdown on to Thursday’s $100 million Powerball draw, Australian lottery players may be keen to discover the entry types and numbers that have helped previous division one winners take home the coveted prize.
The $100 million jackpot for Powerball draw 1475 on Thursday 22 August 2024 is the third-biggest jackpot offered by any Australian lottery game in 2024 and the sixth-biggest jackpot in Australian lottery history.
The jackpot has reached this level after there were no division one winners during the past four Powerball draws.
The Lott spokesperson Matt Hart said up to half of Australian adults were expected to have an entry into this week’s draw in the hope they scored Powerball’s twelfth division one win of 2024.
“If just one person takes home the entire $100 million prize on Thursday night, they’ll not only receive a substantial boost to their bank account but also share the crown of Australia’s third biggest lottery winner ever,” he said.
“Only five Aussies know what it’s like to win a lottery prize of $100 million or more, but perhaps we’ll add to that tally on Thursday night.
“The idea of winning this life-changing jackpot is sure to get Aussies dreaming big this week.
“As long as you’ve got a ticket in your hand before the draw’s close at 7.30pm AEST on Thursday night, you’re in with a chance to win!

Where the Powerball jackpots have landed so far this year
- So far this year, 11 Powerball division one winning entries have pocketed more than $492 million.
- Five of these wins were in New South Wales, four were in Queensland, and one each in South Australia and Victoria.

FY24 Winning Powerball entries
- More than half (12 of 19) of the Powerball division one winning entries in FY24 were QuickPicks – where the lottery terminal randomly generates your numbers.
- Almost half (9 of 19) of the FY24 Powerball division one winning entries in FY24 were PowerHit entries – an entry unique to Powerball that guarantees the all-important Powerball number you need to win division one.
- Almost half of the division one winning entries in FY24 were relatively small entries of 36 games or less (including single PowerHit entries).
Powerball’s “Hot” and “Cold” numbers
- While Powerball is a game of chance, and every number has an equal chance of being drawn, there are some numbers we have seen drawn out of the barrel more often than others.
- From the main barrel, where seven winning numbers are drawn from 35, the most frequently drawn numbers are 17, 7, 3 and 9, while the least frequently drawn are 15, 33, 31 and 26.
- From the separate Powerball barrel, where a single Powerball number is drawn from 20, the most frequently drawn Powerball numbers are 2 and 4, while the least frequently drawn Powerball numbers are 14 and 16.

- In Victoria, the postcode 3000 for Melbourne sold four division one winning entries.
- In Tasmania, the postcode 7320 for Burnie sold the Apple Isle’s biggest division one prize.
- In South Australia, the postcode 5108 for Salisbury sold South Australia’s biggest division one prize.
- In the top-end, the postcode 0810 for Casuarina delivered the Northern Territory’s biggest division one prize.
- In Western Australia, the postcode 6054 for Bassendean sold two division one winning entries.
